My fiancée and I are in need of dining room chairs to go with our custom table/bench we had made. I am a firm believer of supporting local business’ so, this past weekend we decided to swing into Bracko Brothers to see what they had. Looked like nice stuff and had a big SALE sign in the window… who doesn’t love a good sale? We walked in and were greeted by an older fella(maybe one of the brothers?) which was great. Thing is it took him all of 10 seconds to ask us where we were from. We said«Calgary» then he said«no, I mean where are you really(originally) from». I said«Ontario» my fiancée says«Alberta». Next thing you know, this guy is spouting off about how I need to apply to live in this province and saying my fiancée isn’t a true Albertan as she didn’t know when Alberta became a province(1905 in case you were wondering). And it’s good that I proposed to her so I can get my ‘Albertan citizenship”. He also repeatedly called me an «import» which is crazy since I’m 3rd generation Canadian and have less of an accent than he does. He then carried on about how his family«homesteaded» in the area back in ______(insert year that I don’t give a rip about here). I know he’s an older dude and some tend to be set in their old school ways, but give me a break! What would happen if we weren’t Caucasian? Would he tell us that we didn’t belong and to get out of ‘his’ country? I’m in sales myself and if I would have done this, I would not only lose the sale(which he did) but I would be fired as well. We had money to burn, but you and your business will never see any of it. I’ll happily spend my money where it is appreciated and where I’m not belittled because I’m a born and bread Canadian.

I’ve had a very different experience of Bracko Brothers than the other reviews. A couple of the things they note resonate with my experiences, but I saw them as positives rather than negatives. Let me tell you my story, briefly, if you’ll indulge me. After many years, my partner and I had our dream opportunity come true last summer to start our own practice, and we needed furniture that was good quality and tasteful. We were both drawn to the understated elegant, yet solid, and finely crafted items by a maker called, I think, Simply Amish. One of the owners directed us to their catalog where we were glad to spend well over an hour without intrusion to make our choices among type of wood, finish colour, and style variations. These items are priced according to their quality, which is what we wanted, and we were glad for the time to pour over the options, fully expecting that these items will last the remainder of my career and well beyond. They had to be «right.» Next, we enlisted One of the owners to make the order. His knowledge of the product was reassuring and helpful. There was a further option for tne filing cabinet not listed in tne catalog– raised side panels. Yes! Thank you! That’s even better. We ordered our(well, MY) filing cabinet, lamp, and our coat stand. A wait of some 8 or so weeks was indicated so that Amish craftsment could make up our items, and I’m telling you, what an outstanding job! After a few days, I realized a problem. The file cabinet had plain sides. I’d ordered raised panels. I thought about just keeping it, but I’d paid extra. I contacted them. Maybe they’d offer to refund the difference. I explained the problem to one of the girls. Next day, I received a call from Lou – the owner who helped us before. «You didn’t get the side panels you wanted.» Before I could open my mouth, he added, «it’s taken care of. I’ ve already ordered tne right one. Keep using that one, and when the new one is in, we’ll bring it out to you.» And they did just that! Let me tell you about this file cabinet – it’s the nicest I’ve ever seen. The quality and workmanship is exquisite. My father and grandfather were carpenters, and I can appreciate the quality of this, and the other items. I couldn’t be more thrilled with our purchases, nor could I be happier with the competent and professional service I received. It’s easy to be, or appear to be «good» when a product sells itself and there’s no problem. But when there’s an issue? That reveals much about the integrity of a business. They stood by me without hesitation, taking care of me without my even having to ask! I’ll be back. In fact, if they still have that other cabinet, I’ll probably start there! I only write reviews of either excellent service deserving acknowledgment, or horrific service deserving of a public warning announcement. Brackos stands with my other(few) reviews of extraordinarily good service and product quality.

This place is a joke, I went there about 3 – 4 times looking for furniture and no one even bothered to address me. I had one older person come meet me once, I was looking for a dining table, I told him what I was looking for and he just handed me 4HUGE binders and told me to look through these. I WOULDNEVERGOBACKAGAIN!

I whole-heartedly wanted to support a local company, but was hugely disappointed with the quality and service. I suppose they are local, in that they distribute locally, but still buy from the same crappy, unreliable suppliers others do. We ordered our furniture and were told 6 weeks max. It took 3 times that before we finally got it all. Then after experiencing the furniture for a while it became obvious that the quality was definitely not worth the price. We could have purchased something comparable for a lot less money. I would have rated them higher were they cheaper for what we purchased, but given the price to quality ratio, the value factor was non-existent. Then, to rub salt in the wounds, they kept emailing with promotions for their great upcoming sales and deep discounts. Big sales, where furniture was offered for a lot less than we paid. Bite me Bracko Brothers!
