BATL – The Home of Axe Throwing

We can here for a friend’s birthday party and there were 6 of us and we did a round robin tournament where we all played each other and then moved into playoffs. I don’t know why but I had this feeling that it wouldn’t be that hard going into it (because I’m so full of myself despite having no evidence this would be true whatsoever) but then quickly discovered that I am terrible at axe throwing. However, the instructor was extremely helpful and under his patient tutelage I was able to claw my way up from the bottom and win the tournament!!! MUAHAHA
It was $ 40 per person for our private event but if you want to try throwing axes for less than that they have drop-​in Friday evenings and Saturday for $ 20. You can also join a league which is $ 109.52 + tax in Calgary right now which works out to be around $ 16 a game (although you do need to buy and bring your own axe).
They give you many tips for the actual throwing of the axes but a personal trick that worked really well for me was to squat/​lunge really low. Yes this makes you look ridiculous but hey it worked. I’m sure this isn’t official advice so just listen to them and have fun! Definitely worth checking out!

We played round robin style with another group of people. It was super fun and we got to meet some new people too! I had no idea I could throw an axe like that! Would definitely go again!

SO MUCH FUN!!!
We went with a group of 8, it cost us $ 35 each for 3 hours. That included an axe throwing «coach» (aka supervisor lol) who was there the whole time, giving one-​on-​one coaching tips for each of us.
Our coach was Kathleen, and she was so rad, made the day even more fun for us.
We were all at different skill levels, 2 had been before but the rest of us city girls hadn’t really done much axing before. After a few practice throws and some pointers from Kathleen, we were each able hit the targets, and even get bullseyes!
Lots of fun, great idea for team building, adult parties, or just something new to do. A few of us are thinking of joining the league even!

I had been seeing all my friends in Toronto post their axe throwing pics online, and now we finally have the chance to do it here!
While they don’t have their ALGC license yet (so no booze), they are running free open houses all of July! FREE! So definitely worth checked out!
Would be an awesome birthday party or team building event.
