This was our go to sushi place when we lived in this area. The owner and her son are very welcoming and so nice to us. They go shopping and pick the freshest fish and biggest prawns. We have been back so many times they started to give us samples of what was coming up on their menu and free miso soup! We suggest you try: –creamy prawn –kamikaze roll –butani We hope it hasn’t changed since we last went there!

This sushi restaurant is definitely a scrooge when it comes to the actual fish they put in their rolls and nigiri. If you’re looking to eat copious amounts of rice and imitation crab then go for it! Their prices are on par with some of the best sushi restaurants in town but the quality is severely lacking. The customer service is very poor. I know I’m never eating there again!

I have ordered my lunch and picked it up about 5 times. Their lunch combos offer the great value for the price of $ 10-$ 15. The service from the lady owner is not that great, but it is not a big deal for me as I always ask for ‘to go’ for my lunch. You will be stuffed with a lunch combo and 4⁄5 time Sashimi was fresh so $ 10 – 15 you spend will be quite worthy. –changed from 4 to 3 as the quality of food and service are getting worse.

My roommates and I are regulars at this place! The staff is super friendly, and the sushi is one of the best in the gva. Some of our favourites are: Tuna & Salmon Sashimi, caterpillar roll, and captain crunch roll!

Haven’t eaten in. Ordered again from here today through and realized I shouldn’t be hiding my love away. Today I have the plague that’s making rounds, so I felt like some hot food to comfort my aching body. I have ordered: sushi rolls, sashimi and nigiri before, and they have been on point. One star off because 5-star sushi joints are highly creative. However, this place still has LOTS to recommend it! The delivery has been classy. Greeting me by name and drivers dressed beautifully. It’s been swift and the food has hit all the right spots. We usually order pork gyoza, chicken karaage(comes with sweet chilli sauce and is better than many), sushi, beef short ribs and sometimes tempura or teriyaki. (My pic of the short ribs looked a bit risqué, so turned it upside down and now the orbs of rice look like eyes ;)

I LOVE Sushi Gen! Great customer service! They remember who you are after just a few visits. They also learned my name quickly, which makes for a very welcoming atmosphere and pleasant experience. The food is EXCELLENT! The spicy yam roll and spicy agedashi tofu are my favs! *Vegetarian and vegan friendly. Also willing to make accommodations and substitute if necessary. **Delivery available.

Fantastic place. Service is excellent the owner’s are gems. They really never miss on anything that we order. My boyfriend and I just love it and don’t go anywhere else now. I have a picky 8 year old son and their kids plates are super accommodating to that also. Love this place.

Red Robins was not worth the 20 minute wait, so we stumbled across this little joint. And I’m glad we did! The service was quick, the staff was friendly and the sushi was well put together. The sushi didn’t blow my mind, but it’s another Japanese restaurant on my list that I don’t mind going back to.

My girlfriend and I have been to Sushi Gen twice now and we love it. We have tried pretty much very sushi place in the area and Gen wins hands down. New owners took this place over not too long ago and they are awesome! Super nice, super polite, very welcoming. First time we went we got a complimentary taster from the young male server(I’m guessing he’s the son) of some delicious deep fried concoction that was delicious. The sushi was really good. I would put it at top 3 I have had. The gyoza was very good as well. Tasted very fresh and not frozen like some places. Great dining experience. Definitely would recommend to any sushi lover!

Funny enough, we ended up here as a default because we wanted California Sushi but there, like usual has a lack of parking. We were warmly greeted and they maintained great and friendly service. We tried their chicken teriyaki, Ebi Mayo, and a couple specialty rolls. All were great, fresh, and ingredients to rice ration was perfect. Not too much rice. Also they gave us complimentary miso soups and gyozas which is always appreciated. I’d have to say from now on, this is going to be my go-to sushi place in the Lougheed area.

We(two seniors and daughter) did lunch at Sushi Gen this week, our first look inside the restaurant since it opened recently. I had checked out their menu online beforehand, so we went in quite aware of the offerings and prices to expect. It was now time to see, feel, and experience dining there. We opted for lunch boxes — Mom had the gyoza box(several(5 – 6) pieces of deep-fried gyoza, and the same number of california rolls), and daughter and I each had the sushi box(3 pieces of salmon, 2 pieces of tuna, 2 pieces ebi nigiri). Each box came with: tea, miso soup, green salad, 4 pieces of tempura(prawn and yam), appetizer of-the-day(mini spring rolls today), and fruit(fresh orange). The gyoza box was priced at $ 10, the sushi box at $ 12. The food: quite decent presentations(the food really did ‘look’ good when it was brought to our table), but there was definitely ‘good’ & ‘poor’ in the preparations. The good: the sushi(the fish fresh, colourful, and tasty), the california rolls, and the tempura pieces(good batter, tasty). The poor: the miso soup(luke warm, watery, and tasteless), the green salad(mostly just wilted and starting to brown lettuce), and the thoroughly-overcooked spring rolls and gyoza(the insides of each were quite tasty, but the casings very tough, and leather-like!!). The service: not quite as ‘openly’ friendly as I thought it might be, being a newly-opened restaurant in the neighbourhood, and replacing another at the location — but that said, the service was prompt, courteous, and just fine. The ambience: ok. a little stark, but quite typical of the small, sushi restaurants located in strip malls, plazas, and the like. Overall: mixed-feelings about our dining experience, we had hoped for more. But to be fair, being so new, maybe they still have some«nervous jitters»(especially in the kitchen), to work out. Will we give them another chance? yes, we likely will, but will wait a while. If/when there’s a repeat visit, we hope it will be for dinner, where we can select and try a little more of the variety that’s offered there.
