It’s not open on weekends and the servers are usually grumpy. Except the cute east coast boy. He’s the only good one. I’m glad its there but the place doesn’t show much SFU school spirit and they don’t seem happy to be there. Usually a campus bar is the coolest place in town; not this one.

Went here for Octoberfest with a friend after a doozy of a midterm. We came around 5:30PM. It was empty with the Canucks game playing on the TV screens. The seating arrangements are great, nothing outstanding. We weren’t approached until 5:50 which is pathetic because the place was empty. Do they not have a drink/alcohol menu? For Octoberfest, in this pub, not to have Heineken was shameful but we settled for Stellas with chilled glasses. I was hungry so I ordered the Bratwurst with fries. Although it took unnecessarily long and the portion of the fries kinda ripped me off, I liked it. Around 6:30, it was crowded and my friend and I ordered nachos without any extras. We got it unusually fast. Nachos are the easiest dish to make and, at the same time, screw up. It was your colourful corn chips topped with… I guess Kraft singles that were burned, tomatoes, olives and jalapenos with your standard salsa and sour cream on the side. The cheese wasn’t the worse part, it was the fact that we got the bottom of the chip bag. There were crumbs hidden underneath the toppings… and this was what, $ 12? That was kinda meh for a first visit. Not coming back.

A good place on campus to grab a yummy meal and meet up with friends. Good food — mostly bar-style food — and drinks. As an added bonus, the night manager is very friendly and quite a character. There is a VEGAN friendly option. They have a vegan veggie burger, and it is absolutely delicious.

The Highland Pub has the potential to be a lot better than it currently is, but it seems as if there’s no desire to undertake that challenge. Every time I come here, I always seem to leave disappointed. Couple of examples as to why include: — Waiting for a server to arrive while I was taking a break between classes, but to no avail. My friends and I gave them 20+ minutes to approach our table. Safe to say that’s fair, right? — Watered down drinks. If you want to get your friend hammered for his birthday, this place will rack up your credit card bill easily. The only positive thing I can say about the Highland Pub, apart from the new renovations and seating, are the cheap foods available on Tuesday nights. Cheap burgers, hot dogs, spring rolls, jalapeño poppers, etc. As for the food, it’s pretty standard for a pub. It’s decent, but not great. Would love to see this place smarten up and give broke students their money’s worth. If we demand drinks to get drunk, serve it to us with maximum potency please!

Dropped by, or should I say, wandered into the café while walking around SFU — only tried their drip coffee –they use Spirit bear beans(which I haven’t heard of) which makes an ok cup. The pricing is equivalent to its competitor, Renaissance Café. Other than that, nothing really stands out.

the specials are worth checking out every semester. but in spite of the new look, this bar is only in business because it’s the only one in campus that’s tolerable. wings are decent most of the time. AVOID the yam fries. my goodness. one of the cheapest pitchers in the city is found here, which is a big positive:)

The new sun-drenched(sometimes) atrium is awesome! Seeing as the Highland has, pretty much, a monopoly at SFU, I think they fulfill their obligation… I mean, it’s a student pub. There’s really nothing special going on here. It is what it is.

Overall, a fine place to knock back a few drinks after class/work if you’re on the hill. Not as overpriced as in the past but service is still lacklustre. The good: *The beautiful view from the patio on a sunny day in their amazingly comfortable new furniture. *The new $ 9.99 Highland Lager jugs(formerly called Winchester beer, what I’m pretty sure is just Black Label) *Lots of seating *Moderately priced food for a campus pub *Very convienient The bad: *Service *The interior is mediocre at best *They are too frequently out of Highland Lager *They will close at 10 pm on a weeknight

We found the Highland Pub thanks to a waft of stale beer that drifted down the stairs past the Higher Grounds café. It’s the classic renovated university bar: the floors and furniture are the same you’d find in a cafeteria, a bold coat of paint creates any and all atmosphere, and a selection of corporate beer brands decorate the walls. Last night was the World AIDS Day fund-raiser at the pub. The menu spans the narrow, deep-fried selection of nachos, burgers, and chicken strips. Our quesadilla was good enough and the pitchers were cheap. Lots on tap and a good spot to sit with a group. But having no nostalgia for SFU I see no reason to ever return. Plus, what kind of university pub closes before 10pm on a weeknight? That’s a disservice to the community :)
