I wanted pizza and this place was clean and well lit. The pizza was no great shakes, but I’m in the middle of the Amazon, so… What I didn’t like was how the waitress pencilled in a 10% tip for herself bringing the total up to $ 85. I gave her $ 100 and she brought me $ 5 change. I’m not going to argue(especially since English is no ones strong suit here), but it was a dirty move and ensures that I’ll never come back.

Okay so I had to write a review ASAP because I just got my pizza delivered and I have never been so disappointed in pizza. Firstly, false contact information. We googled Dominos and dialed the number listed. You could only imagine our shock when we got the Splash pizza guy at our hotel lobby. But then we thought how can you possibly mess up pizza right? WRONG. This pizza had a heavy-Cakey crust. The«4 cheese pizza» had some questionable forms of cheese and I asked myself several times: what the heck am I eating. The cheese had 3 different consistencies none of which were good. They were gummy, mushy, or artificial. Lastly, I paid $ 20USD for this monstrosity called pizza!!! That took the cake.

(Dined 01÷05÷14 M @ 5:00pm): I had to try how Brazilians did pizza! After an all-day tour that included a boat ride along the Amazon River and several of its tributaries as well as a hike into the rain forest, I had the rest of the day and night to explore the city of Manaus, and along the way directly across the famous Teatro Amazonas, I was intrigued by Splash Pizza and how a Brazilian pizza tasted, and of course hoped they had more beer I hadn’t tried yet. I’d come to the right place! Once I ordered, settled in, placed my tired dogs up on the chair across from me, the grubbing began: Itaipava(n/a) — In my quest to try as many local beers as possible whenever and wherever I traveled, this came in a slim can almost the size of a Red Bull with an aluminum peel cover. I didn’t know what the alcohol content was but it was high(thank goodness I walked!). This pilsner was bolder than expected with taste similar to Michelob. It was decent but not one of my favorite Brazilian beers I drank.
Kuat Guarana Soda(n/a) — The over-sweet guarana fruit is native to the Amazona region and was a favorite of the locals. This was fruit was found in many sodas as well as mixed drinks. Apparently, this fruit had twice the caffeine content found in coffee beans, and by did I feel it instantly since I don’t drink caffeinated drinks. This drink hit me fast and left me loopy some time after I finished it. It would put Red Bull to shame. Basil & Rosemary Cheese Pizza(n/a) — Freshly-made and full of seasonings, this had an odd light and fluffiness about it like a cake although the crust was crispy and crunchy. I enjoyed the mass amount of cheese as I had to pull away from each after each bite. Certainly a new experience I enjoyed. Service — After I managed through the language barrier with the cute female cashier, ordering was easy enough(a lot of pointing was involved and Spanglish on my part). I seated myself with my drinks and waited for about five minutes before they brought out my slice of pizza and table settings. They had bussers, but it appeared they only cleared your table once you left and I didn’t notice any trash cans. Otherwise, no complaints. Parking — There appeared to be free parking along the nearby street Rua Costa Azevedo. However, this business was located on a strip of pedestrian-only area directly across from the Teatro Amazonas. The majority of people like myself were walking the streets. Atmosphere, décor, ambience — With a welcoming wide-open front entrance, this extremely spacious and cavernous restaurant had more than enough tables and chairs and reminded me of an industrial facility with it’s exposed ceiling. Many electric lights hung down while some natural lighting came in through the front entrance. Brick and drywall surrounded you as some spots had advertisements and posters hung on them. Several TVs were found throughout as I could see this place being lively when a futbol match was played. I didn’t notice any background music. Attire — Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Overall, Splash Pizza made a splash for my first foray into Brazilian pizza and I’d only wished I had more of an appetite and tried other pizzas they had. I guess another trip to Brazil was in order, right?! Heck, it seemed like pizza joints were opening up weekly here in Los Angeles, so maybe there will be a Brazilian-themed one soon! At least it would be different from the rest of carbon-copies that are out there now. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above(total bill was around $ 8.00USD; no tip required), which seemed really cheap to me! They also excepted USD cash if you didn’t have any Brazilian Real money. And, they accepted my credit card of choice… AMEX!
