Being of Turkish heritage and growing up in Australia, almost all the Turkish restaurants our family would frequent lacked either good service(no smile); consistent high quality across the majority of menu choices; and some even lacked Turkish music! Food is unparalleled at Marmara restaurant. Exceptional quality. For years we would travel to Sydney Rd to the various Turkish restaurants to attempt to relive the true deliciousness of the Mediterranean homeland dishes, but to no real high quality. Better late than never, we have found Marmara located on Chapel(just be careful to not miss it as narrow in width — but ambiance is great!) You will not be disappointed. Tell them newly acquired and repeat customers Ali and his mother recommended their delicious food. Enjoy!

Marmara serves what I consider the best-value tasty meal on Chapel Street… The Mixed Grill. This is so fresh and reminds me of my dad’s BBQs at my house as a boy. Love it. The Turkish pizzas and dips are great too. Try an Efes Pilsener while you’re there.

Well I’ve often had ‘modern Australian’, Asian, Italian, and too much take away pizza to remember. Wanting things different for my birthday Saturday afternoon I had Mexican at Mamasita, and Sunday wanted to try something different again. With only an hour between double features at the Astor Theatre I couldn’t go far so settled on Turkish at Marmara. The interior restaurant is darkly lit and sort of homely sort of warn. I was promptly seated and the water was icy cold. I ordered the Shish Kebab and was readily served in under 10 minutes. The lamb was juicy and tender and the rice tasty and the salad nicely spiced but despite this I just didn’t feel completely full, in fact I was so hungry I forgot to photograph it and there had been 4 skewers. This seems to be a reoccurring theme for me, and I’m quite thin, I guess I just need more food and ought to start ordering entrees first or adding sides? The«Turkish Delight Rocky Road» was a BIG disappointment however. There was simply NO Turkish Delight in it! Just two wedges of marshmellow and nuts with chocolate sauce drizzled on top! As take away/delivery I think it would be pretty good, as a restaurant its just so-so.
