There seems to be a couple of La La Lands scattered about Melbourne because I am familiar with the one in the city, but didn’t realise that it had a little cousin down on Chapel Street. To be honest, this wasn’t the best bar that I have visited down here, though I can’t say that it was all that bad. The problem is that there are lots of bars on Chapel Street(as you probably all know, particularly if you live in Melbourne) and there isn’t anything about this place that made me want to come here above and beyond all of the other choices available. Okay they had comfy seats, but so do many of the others, and they also have a pretty decent happy hour, but once again so did many of the others. I might come back here again, but since there are places I prefer much more, it is unlikely.

Red. There’s so much red in this space. It is one huge red room. One giant red rum. I came here on a first date, and he ordered me a red wine. It was not a great tipple, although he could have just been a cheap date, so I won’t hold it against La La Land. The date started off in the worst possible way, with the guy essentially laying out all of his ignorance and painful stupidity in the space of 20 minutes, in the comfort of a red arm chair that wouldn’t look out of place in Gabi Grecko’s boudoir. To be clear: it was a hideous chair. The furniture is terrible — deep armchairs that you sink into(fine if you’re at home, watching, say The Shining, with someone who isn’t a complete moron) but awful if you are trying to explain why victim blaming is wrong over super loud music. If you haven’t gathered by now, the date sucked, the venue wasn’t amazing or anywhere I’d rush back to, and I left seeing red and possibly homicidal. So many better places to go on Chapel that don’t anger the blood.

One of the most effeminate places I have ever been. I went here with a mate. Red velvet and red lighting. Lucky they had $ 12 jugs on happy hour.

Anything that lets me bring in take out food, sit by a fireplace, and have the bar staff play their ipods during their shift is a winner in my books. Comfy couches and a cruisey vibe. Its no wonder I’m a regular.

La La Land is a consistent player in the nightlife game, I often find myself settling into this cosy little bar when I’m after a comfortable couch, good drink prices and a place to escape the weather. Decorated with rich red velvet couches and a warm open fireplace, La La Land is warmly inviting on those cold wintery nights in Melbourne when you need a night cap just to warm you up. During Summer the venue is equally as good, the large windows open right up so you can sit in the breeze with a view of Chapel Street. La La Land offers happy hour every night of the week; $ 10 jugs, $ 3 wines and $ 4 basics, it’s a great place for a few drinks after work rain, hail or shine.

Many a good night had here and many more to come. It’s always good to get here early and have a few drinks on the couches as you watch the night evolve. Always nice as well is to sit in front of the fire on what would have been one of those cold lonely nights if you didn’t come the La La Land. This is also a really good place to have a function with a few different room options. Always a good idea when having a function are the finger foods that can also be arranged.
