I ordered a mince curry pie. A mince curry pie it was not — there was absolutely NO curry in it whatsoever. It was just a normal mince meat pie(which is cheaper than a mince curry pie). In terms of just being a mince meat pie, it was ok. I didn’t think it was amazing… but I’m kind of sad because I’d heard good things about it. I probably wouldn’t go back again just because I agree with another person here who commented about the pies recently that the pies are just ‘not there’. I’ve definitely had better pies elsewhere… even Jesters as a chain has better meat pies! And at least you get what you pay for in terms of flavour.

Woahhhh, Joe’s! After serious renovations over Christmas the team has kicked the business into overdrive. Formerly a dodgy looking bakery fit for a 90s sitcom(think the Seinfeld Babka scene), Joe’s not only looks amazing but is doing coffee from Geisha(see Nth Freo roasters and café on Unilocal) and their usual baked goods. Additionally, they have expanded the floor space and there’s place to dine in for lunch. I love the fudge slice, the mint slice and the mini sausage rolls. They also do a salted caramel filled donut which I bought was a cool twist on the jam filled donut!

I had a Steak and Kidney pie, it had two pieces of meat that was like chewing leather, yes I have chewed leather, and no kidney, basically it was a gravy pie with two chewey junks of gristle. It tasted of pepper, no hint of steak and kidney at all, the counterhand had no knowledge of the pie’s they had available and was preoccupied with her own appearance. We moved to one of there window benches to sit when one of the workers had to, all of a sudden come and clean our table, she advised us we could sit there if we wanted. I thought that was obvious we were sitting there. The whole experience at Joe’s Bakery was a waste of my money and time. The service was terrible the food was terrible and the appreciation of my custom was disrespected. I advise not to go there.

Lots of different items for sale from bakery, include meat pies and rolls. I tried the little apple and cherry custard pie. So good! The pastry is flaky and delicious. Popped it in the microwave for a minute made it even better. Reasonable prices and plenty of selection.

You know those mornings? When you get into work and REALLY feel like you need something bad to start the day? Joe’s Cake Kitchen is perfect for those days. From fresh sausage rolls and meat pies to donuts and chocolate eclairs, you will surely find something to satisfy. Joe’s is actually the go-to place my co-workers count on, especially when we have our morning tea bake-off every other week. For those that can’t bake, it’s so convenient to just call up and order a box of warm savory pastries, cupcakes or a gorgeous fruit tart! They also do catering and have a small selection of platters for breakfast, lunch(sandwiches & rolls) and fruit. Ideal for small work meetings.

It should really be called Joe’s Pastry Kitchen as the majority of the products are savoury pastries. Sausage rolls, quiches, pies and many more piping hot golden flaky delights smile back at you from the heated display window. The rotating cake stand at the entrance boasts some beautiful looking whole cakes for sale, various chocolate and fruit numbers. The custard tart topped with fruit was one that I mentally bookmarked for a picnic. I also loved the look of the massive single serve meringues at the counter, boy am I a sucker for meringues! If you worked near Joe’s you could put on some serious pounds visiting for morning and afternoon tea. I know I would! On the healthier end of the scale they have some freshly made sandwiches and rolls, the usual suspects cheese and salad etc.

There’s somewhat of a catering spot strip along Hay in West Perth, but this place bakes, I mean take’s, the cake! The mini sausage roll, fruit mince pies and scones that I have gorged myself on were absolutely divine. The service is fast as well as very friendly, and when I’ve used them for office catering, even at the last minute, they have been very helpful to deal with. Their shop has a nice little corner jutting out so you can’t miss their location, and the windows add to the clean and bright atmosphere of this place. I am disappointed to be moving jobs so I won’t be in close proximity to this place, but I am sure I will make the trek for a date scone now and then. The one time we ordered a fruit platter from them for our morning tea I felt they could have done better for $ 29, but hey, they are a cake shop, no one really has any right to knock a star off their review because their cut up fruit isn’t the best value.

Carbohydrate and gluten heaven. This place is renowned across Perth for their cakes, pastries and platters. If it’s just something sweet with your lunch that you’re after then they have individual slices of most of their cakes available. If its a party you need to cater for then this could be your last stop with everything from party platters with a selection of either sandwiches, fruit, party pies etc. and they can even look after the cake with an option for Extra Large Cakes. Everything in here is reasonably priced and well worth a visit for your next starchy treat.
