I can’t really complain all that much about this place. Okay, most of the tables were reserved even though it was mid-morning, but they did have a decent selection on their breakfast menu. While the place does call itself a café, it comes across more as one of those trendy beachside bars, and it does afford an excellent view of the Torquay forshore. Fortunately for us there was a table inside that we were seated at, so we did not have to worry about the blustery conditions outside, though they do have a really cool deck, as well as seating out on the side of the road. The bacon and eggs were pretty good as well. There were some decent beers on tap, however due to the time of day, and the fact that we had a long drive ahead of us, I decided to pass on ordering a beer. Still it is a nice place, especially for breakfast.

Warning super honest review coming up. If you’re not prepared please turn right and keep on moving. By the Unilocal rules I have to give a star. So here is one out of generosity because I’m generally a nice person. Where to start? The abundance of staff? There are so many staff members here not doing a whole heap of nothing and that they had the time to enjoy some really good looking food. I wish I could have gotten some of that or anything infact. So the first issue was that we wanted a seat. The indoors area was 75% reserved tables and lucky to be at 25% capacity. Our enormous group of 5 were handed some great dinner menus and shuffled outside with orders to take our own orders to the bar. What we should have been told was to out the order through ourselves. While the lunch/dinner menu looks reasonable I didn’t quite feel like a cocktail and a porterhouse before 10am on a Sunday morning. Eventually the staff member rectified here mistake by telling us that she hadn’t woken up yet. Sorry love but you work in a beach side café on a Sunday morning. the day of the Havianas thong challenge and Australia Day too. Time to have your A team on. Once we got the breakfast menus we promptly took ourselves to the bar and ordered. Seemed simple enough. 2 milkshakes, 2 juices and 1 pancakes. I personally enjoyed the 50% capacity of my glass taken up with ice. Again we are winning with the staff being confused between dinner and breakfast service. The pancakes did three rounds of the outdoor area before the waitress responded to our waves. Whilst they looked delicious they arrived cold. Please note staff– it’s not a great idea to be chatting to people when you have a hot dish to serve. And let’s not forget that there was no cutlerly given by anyone between bar staff and dish delivered. Once cutlerly was found, pancakes eaten by a greatly patient man we were all ready to move on but WAIT where are the milkshakes? No where to be seen. Despite our meals finally delivered, the group next to us ordering and receiving a full brekky we were still missing milkshakes. And no staff to be seen. A quick trip back in doors found quite a few behind the bar eating. One girl looked truly offended that I informed her that we were still waiting on a few items. Sorry love that I ruined your breakfast by asking for mine, which I have paid full price for. 2mins later the sweet sound of the milkshake maker could be heard. Delivered with a shrug and handed over three people instead of stepping around. What really added to our excellent experience here was the lack of distinction between the milkshakes. There are some fundamental differences between chocolate and vanilla. Not here my friends. This corner venue has a great location and a reasonable menu. Like a highschoo student there is a lot of potential here. Maybe we will go back when this venue is ready to be in the adult world.

The food needs to be phenomenal to make up for the pathetic service from the wait staff, the female that served us sighed and tutted when we ordered drinks right away and threw them at us, resulting in broken glass and one being replenished, while she was more careful with the food, she be no means wanted to be there getting paid. This place needs to get staff that enjoy the fantastic view and realise they are there to do a job and being bitchy isn’t one of them…

5 stars. Had a great experience here. Excellent homebrew beer, great bar food and an excellent latte. That’s how you win customers. Oh before I forget, excellent view of the water!

Front beach Café is worth a day trip from Melbourne. having dined here, I would drive early to Torquay on a nice warm day, grab brekky here, jump in the beach, have lunch here, jump in the water, have dinner here. (well maybe in between i will grab coffee from Moby or ice cream from Nordenfine) But point is, Front beach has a great view, fresh food and amazing menu. We came here for lunch however breakfast is served till about 12 and all around me was amazing smell and sights of bacon, eggs, muesli etc Off the regular menu we tried the seafood asiette, with fresh oysters(including one in a vodka pomegranate shot), and half a bug succulent in corriander dressing. Light and fresh, and my fave dish on the day. We also had the avocado stuffed with grilled chicken, crumbed and deep fried. Slightly burnt on the bottom, and i would’ve liked it more if it wasn’t deep fried. But creative on their part. Kids were happy with their generous and tasty kids menu, and off the special we tried Barramundi in ratatouille. we will be back for sure, there were so many things on the menu we wanted to try Book early as this place gets booked out despite being one of the bigger café around.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!!! This place is INCREDIBLE! I ate here several times on my last visit and everything I had was total perfection. The staff here are attentive and fast and super friendly(you feel like a regular even the first time you go here!). The coffee here is out of this world amazing! Breakfast/brunch is to die for delicious, and the desserts are phenomenal! Go here and feast like you’ve never feasted before — you’ll be so glad you did!
