Café Moby was our lunch stop as we began our drive on the Great Ocean Road. The food was pretty good but it is a little expensive. The line can be long over lunch time(especially during summer). Therefore, be sure to come early if you want a seat at the café :)

This meal was an amazing way to start our drive on the great ocean road. We were looking for a place in Torquay to enjoy some breakfast with a view of the water. We saw a shoddy place on a corner, and decided to pass it by. Lucky for us, we stumbled upon Moby a few doors down. It feels like a house kitchen. Being from the US and early in our trip in Australia, we were a little confused with how you order, but once we figured it out, it was awesome! I had poached eggs over bacon and avocado on toast. AMAZING! Might be my favorite breakfast ever. Super good. Wifey had eggs benedict. The hollandaise sauce was unreal. Really Really good. Anyone looking for breakfast in the area should be going here.

I love the old house/relaxed vibe that is café Moby. The breakfast menu is fairly extensive and a bit out of the box for Torquay. The fresh juices are divine on a hot day. The only thing holding this place back is their absence of table service and the long queue you have to wait in to place an order. It makes your visit very anti social as you need to leave people to mind the table but others need to queue. It means second rounds of drinks/desert etc are usually abandoned! Moby– You’ve been a leader in Torquay with your menu options, buck the trend and offer table service! We usually visit in a fairly sizable group and we can usually get a table without a wait even in the mist of summer(Torquay’s peak time) due to the large amount of tables inside and out.

Moby’s is around the corner from Torquay’s main street. It is a popular place for meeting with locals because the food is good and the renovated-house setting is relaxed and chilled-out. I had the cajun chicken focaccia, very tasty.

A great looking café in a converted weatherboard house in a great location on The Esplanade in Torquay, all of which goes to waste on the lack of customer service and manners. I was there for lunch. Tables were left dirty and uncleaned after customers had left and were ignored repeatedly by café workers. Eventually we had to clear our own table, as did another table, which I observed that were sitting outside. The female taking our order was rude and unattentive. She was more concerned with chatting to her friend behind the counter than providing us with attentive service. She asked what table we would be sitting at and as I turned to indicate it to her, she returned to her conversation with her friend. She then rudely asked me what table number it was. Not immediately seeing a table number on the table(it was stuck up high behind it on the window), I indicated again(the table behind me next to the window corner) and she sighed and wrote it down. Our meals came out quick and efficiently and I was happy with the speed and diligence of the kitchen. However, we had to ask for our dirty table to be cleaned, as the same girl delivered our food, placing the plates on top of the crumbs, smears of cream and sugar spills left by the previous customer. Her attitude made me feel like we were asking her to do something beyond her duties. The counter was swamped with people ordering take away coffees. They took priority over sit down orders, because my latte did not arrive until 30 minutes after my meal was delivered, approximately 45 minutes after ordering. Another staff member finally came to assist and her screeching loud voice with the customers hurt our ears. She drowned out the music she was so loud. I don’t mind idle banter with customers, but I noticed she would stop what she was doing whenever she started talking. No wonder the coffee machine was so backed up!!! Such a shame that the staff are so rude and uncaring. This really could be a great place if it had the right people. No more Moby for me. They could take a leaf or two out of The Sands approach to customer service. Nothing is too much of a trouble, even if you’re just there for coffee and a chill out.
