Do you like beer? Do you like different varieties of beer in an ever-changing orgy of foamy liquid brownness? Do you constantly dream of a tall glass of the Cold One? Go here, do not pass go, collect $ 200 because you will probably spend it. Carwyn Cellars is part bottle-shop, part bar, and whether you want a cold glass or a cold bottle to take away, they’ve got you covered. Specialising in beer, but with a healthily stocked full bar and some decent ciders and wines hanging around too, I’ve yet to try anything from here that isn’t delicious and interesting. On the last trip, I snagged a Danish pale ale brewed mango, guava, and passionfruit, which was as fruity as you’d expect, while still tasting delightfully beery. Now if only they did food … although you can order from Kustom Burgers down the road.

For lovers of Whiskey or Beer this will be your heaven! Amazing selections of fine Whiskeys which are all reasonably priced — my boyfriend was practically drooling when he saw the bar. Great selection of beers and spirits too. If your peckish you can make a phone order to the Moors Head which will deliver, just make sure you have exact cash. This place gets pretty packed on a Saturday night so get in early.

Finally got the chance to make it over here. Luckily I have a friend quite near by. Carwyn is a small little bottle shop and no doubt they are stocking some very good wines and other alcoholic creations, but to be honest I didn’t really get the chance to peruse the shelves well as I was short on time, and then I got lost in the range of pretty amazing beers. Carwyn is great for high end specialty beers or hipster beers A great range but very pricey. There’s a heap of good stuff here in beers at least but didn’t notice much else. A lot of great stuff that you might not find elsewhere.

Hands down the best bottle shop I visit, and I visit a few ;) Astounding range of beers. Most of them I’d not heard of before I first visited this place. I’ve been journeying there for a while now. The staff are always friendly, helpful, give great recommendations. Doesn’t matter what you’re in the mood for, they’ll be able to point you to a great drop.

These guys are seriously good. I never leave here without spending way too much on wine and beer. The growlers are brilliant. Great advice, which I always ask for — and have never been disappointed. I don’t really have to go to Carlton or Fitzroy any more.(Bonus)

You’ve got to love a business that declares itself«In an open relationship» and interested in «men and women» on its’ facebook page. Carwyn Cellars is a cheeky independent purveyor of alcoholic beverages with a great range of local wines. The shop has a slightly retro vibe to it, with a few old wooden keg barrels and a weird kind of faux grass-ish floor. It’s easy to browse and doesn’t have any real elements of wank to its’ style. There’s a good selection of nicely priced cleanskins, along with a few less common beers and ciders. The staff are pretty relaxed and highly familiar with their products, and always good to refer to for recommendations.

Carwyn Cellars are so smart as a business that they actually order in extra pellets of canned and plastic bottled booze for Meredith and Golden Plains festivals. The rules for the two annual Meredith festivals state that you can bring your own booze provided you don’t bring any glass onto site. Carwyn have latched onto this and now import a sweet range of canned beers, ciders and UDLs specifically to cater for Meredith goers. Their stock varies from year to year, but of late they’ve been bringing in this stuff called Dr Tim’s(Coopers pale ale in a can!) from South Australia and it quite simply is the tits. You don’t get too many ales in a can, so for beer lovers it means that you don’t have to swill piss all weekend at the festival. ZING! They also bring in a shit pile of Japanese beers in cans and some great cider options for the sweet toothed. They do have a tendency to sell out come festival weekend, so get in early to avoid disappointment yo.

Carwyn Cellars is Thornbury’s local purveyor of plonk. Unlike some larger stores the guys behind the counter actually know their stuff and are happy to offer advice on the products. I usually drop in here for their local clean skins which average $ 10 a bottle and usually taste better than the similarly priced«brand» wines like Jacobs Creek. There is usually a ‘two for $’ clean skin deal available as well. The point of difference here is their great local/Australian wine selection and its not ridiculously priced. There is also free wine tasting Friday evenings between 5.30−7.30 if anyone is interested getting to understand local wines better.
