I’ve never seen anything like the dot art of Australian Aboriginals. The paintings have such vivid colors that blend mysteriously into intricate patterns and designs. I was drawn into Spirit Gallery by the huge canvases on display at the front of the store. It was covered with abstract swirls of paint with dots placed methodically, yet symmetrically. Walking around the store, I saw that all the paintings were similar, but each had a distant characteristic. In addition to having numerous pieces art on canvas, Spirit Gallery has one of the largest collections of didgeridoo, sold in sizes big and small. These traditional musical instruments are made out of wood and have unique handed painted art. Did you know that this instrument actually requires a special breathing technique, called circular breathing, to play it? True professionals can make one constant stream of sound for minutes at a time. This store has so many potential gift items for those who truly appreciate the essence of Aboriginal art, and makes an interesting place to visit while in The Rocks.
