So this is the coffee ‘small’ shop of the Fine Food Store in the Rocks. And I absolutely love the store in the Rocks, so obviously I am fan of the coffee bar. Same awesome coffee, and same awesome service. The major difference is that isn’t variety of the food. They have sandwiches, muffins and small foods, but nothing like the store in the Rocks. But saying that, all the food is still good and the coffee is great. If you are in the area you definately have to stop off here.

Part of me wishes this café called itself«The Mighty Fine Food Store Coffee Bar.» No such luck, though. And the name might be a bit too long by that point. The Coffee Bar’s a new offshoot of the original Fine Food Store in the Rocks. But this is no Robin playing Batman’s fiddle. Hm, might have crossed a metaphor somewhere in there. Oddly, it sounds dirty now … Anyway, the coffee’s good; they use beans from, true enough, Sensory Lab(part of the St. Ali Coffee Roasters family in Melbourne). I refer to my prior review of the Sensory Lab in Bondi, where I lamented an overly milky beverage of Dolly Parton proportions. Here, they actually use a larger(read: better) dose for the same amount of overall liquid, which results in a more discernible(read: better) coffee flavor. Clean, not bitter, with hints of fruit. Me likes. Could use a bit more body, but then we’d be getting into Alchemy territory. $ 4 for a soy cappuccino. They were all too pleased when I told them I preferred their coffee to Sensory’s — that’s when they told me they use a larger dose than do the Sensory Lab folks. Apparently they’re also an aberration of sorts, fitting right in with the rest of their Oxford neighbors, in that they like to taste coffee in their … coffee.
