A great part of the ‘art and about’ art festival in sydney this year was the street art part that took place in alot of the laneways in the city. One of the most decorated laneways was Nithsdale lane off alberta street. There are a quite few artists that contributed to making this laneway come alive with differing styles, colours and ideas explored. Some of the artists you’ll see are Penelope Cain-her work is the black and white pictures you’ll see of office workers doing some farming on what appears to be a lettuce patch. Another artist’s work you’ll see is Jason Wing’s Urban Jungle, featuring several orange and red coloured tribal like characters that have been based on a traditional Aboriginal cave painting. Georgia Perry’s colourful childlike painting is also fantastic, which greets you as you enter from one side of the laneway, it was inspired by the go betweens song, streets of your town. Lastly, Danner Tanner’s The Cartographer 2, can be easy to miss or mistaken as part of Georgia Perry’s artwork, as its placed very close together. However once you’ve spotted it, you’ll notice its very different to the other work. The maze of pipes looks like its construed around a body, and is dripping water below. Its very intriguing and you cant help but stare at it for a while to try and work out just exactly what’s happening. Check it out!
