Made a booking and even called to confirm, arrived on time and they had no seats for us and said they were full. Ended up having to hassle for a seat as they had us stand hidden in the back.

«Yuck cha» is the apt name my colleagues give this place. There are far better restaurants at King Street Wharf. It is designed to turn over the Chinese tour groups that now pour through the area on their way to cruises. As the area caters mainly to tourists there are also several other restaurants with similar regard to quality but there are some gems. For a better choice when you want yum cha head to Golden Century in China Town.

In hindsight, ordering a butter dish at a Chinese restaurant was probably where we went wrong. Located right on the water at King St Wharf, you’d be forgiven for thinking this place is a bit of a tourist trap. Because it kind of is. It’s a perfectly serviceable restaurant with perfectly serviceable Chinese classics, but it’s despicably overpriced to reflect the location — the mains run from the high 20s up into the mid 30s for standard Chinese dishes. Ouchie And hey, I get it man, rents are probably sky high. And the décor is wonderful, the service good, and they have a one of those fun little wheelchair elevators at the front to help disabled people into the restaurant, so mad props for that. The food was expectedly tasty — the chilli sauce was astonishing, and the salt and pepper squid was a game changer when it landed, brilliantly done. But the king prawns in garlic butter sauce was a bit too adventurous. Like, the sauce was silky and glutinous and it tasted like a strange fusion with French cooking but not a good fusion, like a Frankenstein one that didn’t quite work.
