I really like this place. The complicated task of getting good quality accomodation in Sydney that is well located and within your budget would challenge even the most ardent internet researcher. I chose the Mercure as I know the rooms are of a decent standard across the brand. The hotel turned out to be a great option whilst visiting Sydney. Rooms are spacious(particularly for a big city) though bathrooms are compact. Everything is neat and tidy. It’s a business travellers hotel but they have all the amenities you could need as well as a gym, pool, restaurant etc. Staff are excellenta nd very helpful with the endless requests for informationa nd maps from travellers. The hotel is located just across the road from Central Station(tourists should not that ‘Central’ is not actually in the centre of Sydney but loacted at one end) and on a major interchange for buses. I know Sydney well and was able to catch buses right outside my door heading down to Circular Quay, Bondi as well as out to Leichardt and Newtown. You can also walk to Chinatown and Surry Hills for your fill of excellent meals.

The Mercure is a revolving-door hotel. Many international airlines house their crews here and they are constantly checking-in and checking-out. It’s in a great location with Central Station and China Town just outside the door. It’s within walking distance of The Rocks and Circular Quay. The hotel is very busy and stays fairly booked up so it gets a lot of use. Our room(two double beds) was small but well-appointed with a fair sized bathroom(shower has a half-glass door and no curtain), mini-bar, cabinet with shelves, a desk and chair, and a cupboard(closet). Not a lot of floor space so it was cramped when our suitcases were open. Internet is charged at $ 22 per day, per device. However, the hotel will waive the extra-device charge at the front desk during check out and only charge you the $ 22p/d. Connectivity is okay and mostly fast but I couldn’t make a Skype call because it fluctuates too much. The restaurant in the hotel is extremely expensive so we didn’t bother eating here. The staff at the front desk and the coffee bar were very nice. I give it a 3.5 our of 5 stars: The water was turned off the day we came in and the front desk did not inform us. We had to find out from a letter on the desk(which was under our backpacks). There’s construction on the 3rd floor(below our room) and there was a LOT of noise our first day when we were trying to sleep and get over jet lag. There was no notice about this at all. I think our room rate should have been reduced because of this. This hotel is obviously making lots of money(based on how very busy it is), so they could afford to reduce the internet fee. There is no business center, per se. It’s just an internet kiosk with a standard printer. We needed to make a copy of something and couldn’t.

Really good stay here. It had everything we needed. Close to central station & the exhibition center(where we were working) Also very patient staff at reception especially with our ridiculous late night room service requests. I’d definitely stay here again.

Excellent hotel in downtown Sydney. I had somewhat of an extended stay, so they upgraded me to a suite with an awesome view for free. I ran a marathon there, so it was so great to pass out on a huge bed after torturing my body in the race. Everyone was so nice and happy to help this yank. They guided me to the best places for sight seeing, to eat, and with a healthy nightlife. Everything was in walking distance, to include Darling Harbor and Oxford st bars/clubs. Price was reasonable though it was in town and not on the water, which tends to be pricier and full of annoying tourists.
