I didn’t think a Japanese grocery store would be this hard to find in the CBD. They are virtually non-existent…apart from Maruyu! So happy to find a convenient Japanese grocer with a good selection. The store is really small, maybe ½ the size of a convenience store, but boy do they fit a lot in! In the usual Japanese manner, all the cutely packaged products are crammed strategically in narrow aisles. i was here for roasted rice green tea teabags, my current obsession — so that I could drink it all day at work without the mess involved with loose leaf tea. There were 3 types to choose from which is okay; I would have liked a larger selection but am very grateful for the supermarket being there at all! In my usual shopping fashion, I couldn’t walk out with just one box of tea. So I stopped at the snacks aisle and bought 2 packs of Hello Panda chocolate filled biscuits and 2 packs of Yan Yan biscuit sticks with chocolate dip. It cost me $ 7 for everything — bargain! Even the cashier couldn’t believe her eyes when she read out the total. She did a double take of the register(admittedly, everything I bought was on special). A well kept secret and I’d come here again for more Japanese goodies!

This place is totally awesome! I have been looking for a japanese supermarket that is not too far from home and i finally found it. Maruyu is a small but decent japanese mart in the heart of the city. Besides japanese groceries(ramen/sauces/frozen food/drinks/noodles/snacks), it also sells kitchenware like Daiso. The staff was also very helpful. love it !
