The closest place to authentic Mexican food in Sydney CBD. I’m from California… Santa Ana, CA to be exact — the Mecca of Mexican food. I lived 20 meters from one of THEBEST taco stands in the city, so I’ve been a little jaded eating«Mexican» food in Sydney. For any of my American Unilocalers, this place is like Chipotle: * Choose your main(burrito, taco, quesadilla…) * Choose your meat(beef, chicken, pork, steak…) * Choose your filling(rice, beans, salsa, cheese…) This trip I tried a Small Carne Asada(steak) Burrito w/rice, black beans, sour cream, cheese, salsa and lettuce. I only wanted a small burrito since I was still full from my ramen lunch. But for only $ 2 more you can get a larger burrito(Small $ 8.80, Regular $ 10.90) The marinated steak was a little dry, but overall tasty. The fresh salsa and veggies were a perfect balance. The kids behind the counter were courteous and friendly. It was overall a good eating experience. However, I had to knock off one star for portion size and price. The burrito looks like it’s massively packed, but another half a scoop of steak would’ve made the burrito nearly perfect. If you’re near Central Station, it’s worth checking out.

Disgusting excuse for Mexican food. Do not try the guacamole.

I am quite pleased indeed that a Mad Mex has just opened up on George St. at railway square. I stopped in the other day after a long weekend away and was about to eat someone’s arm off. Mad Mex is the sort of place you should go when you’re massively hungry, not just a little nibbley. Their menu isn’t revolutionary, but the prices are reasonable and it definitely does the trick in a pinch. So in an attempt be on the healthy side, I chose the«naked burrito.» This is basically just a pile of burrito innards, more in salad form, complete with black beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, sour cream, salsa(choose your heat) and choice of filling. I went with carnitas: slow roasted port with onion, lime and cumin. MMMMMMMMmmmmmm enter: satisfaction. But want to know my favorite thing about Mad Mex? They have the best(repeat B.E.S.T.) hot sauce in the world: Tapitillo. What’s more? They will let you buy it by the bottle and take it home with you so you can drench your whole life in it. Hell yeah, I’m a fan.
