This is a reasonable hotel in a very convenient location. Situated right above the Kings Cross railway station(take the Victoria Street exit) and at the corner of Victoria Street and Darlinghurst Road, it’s about as close to Kings Cross as you can get. As other reviewers have noted, the décor and surroundings in corridors needs a refresh, as do the carpets, but in general rooms are nice, bed is comfortable, bathroom is spacious and shower is okay. The hot water comes through quickly. The gym is well fit out with a view over the level 1 courtyard and the machines are maintained. Given its central location, the hotel is remarkably quiet — no traffic noise to speak of, which is great. Room service and breakfast from Sirocco Restaurant are good. Only one point of frustration — I arranged to have a newspaper delivered, but it never came.

Wanted to follow up to my previous review. My last stay was June ’14, I was just back for a week at the end of April ’15. They have upgraded their internet service and it is much faster and even able to easily stream shows. However they do limit you to 3000mb/day, but it seems to be that you can sign in again. Another big plus is that they upgraded their television system, fully digital, movies on demand(Pay), electronic program guide, local area, folio, dining menus, the works. You can even record broadcast shows on a DVR and watch them later. One negative, rather big negative, is that with this new system you can’t use alternate inputs on the TV, so I couldn’t connect the VGA cable and watch my laptop on the big screen to really enjoy the upgraded internet. Still a good location, still cheap parking.

Nice hotel. Great facilities and conveniently situated right next to the train station. The food they serve is pretty good for hotel standards. We used the conference facilities here and were very impressed with the variety of delicious food.

I didn’t like this hotel. It’s located directly at Kings Cross — Red light district, party’s, etc. The good days are gone for this hotel, needs to be renovated. The carpet on the floors and in the rooms are dirty, many stains which look really bad. The Breakfast was not really good but also not too bad. What I didn’t like at all for breakfast … it felt like you sit in a cafeteria, the tablecloth was paper! Mixed feelings about the staff. There was for example a very friendly and very helpful guy who really helped a lot. But there was also a lady who was not helpful at all. I would not go to this Holiday Inn again and I would not recommend this hotel.

This is a fine hotel. Others have accurately described the hotel so I shall mention two other items. The first is the breakfast buffet. This buffet may be one of the best food bargains in Sydney from what I saw in my 6 day vacation. At a little over $ 22.(Aus) it may not seem so, but travel Sydney and you will agree. Fresh juices, self squeezed juices, fruit, eggs, sausage, large bread selection, and an omelette station set this buffet off as special. The people are even nicer than the foods The second item is the local. One street over on Darlinghurst Street, one can find strip joints and Street Walkers. It is the red light area of Sydney. That said if you do not walk Darlinghurst after dark it is really not much of an issue. Very nice place at lower cost than those closer to Circular Quay and the upscale areas.

This Holiday Inn was very conveniently located near the Kings Cross rail station which can then get you to many locations around Sydney with ease. The neighborhood was also rich with bars, cafes and restaurants. Rooms were pretty standard and the hotel staff were great. Technical issues are keeping me from changing the star rating to 4 stars, which is what I want to rate this hotel based on the staff and great location.
