Late afternoon and still serving good food — that was very welcome. The bar staff were fun — was great way to wind down and get a meal when all other pubs had stopped serving

THE place in Sydney to watch american sports. Had to catch my New England Patriots while I was abroad and was thankful that Cheers played the game! It was a Monday afternoon, so the bar was pretty empty. We just told the bartender what game we wanted, and they changed the channel for us. Food wasn’t too bad for a bar! Their little chicken wings(not the buffalo sauce ones) were actually really delicious! They look kinda weird b/c they’re just sticks with meat on them, but it was seasoned very well. There were a few other Pats fans there(who were also traveling), so it was nice to cheer for my team with some other people(:*

Where nobody knows your name… and you’re kinda glad you came… Cheers is for late nights. You’ve just been kicked outta a great bar, or you are just looking to get your Color of Money on, and win some 9-ball. You won’t get bothered in Cheers. There’s no lines, no noise and no worries. Cheers is divey… but in a good way, it’s a real dive, all that is missing is the peanut shells on the floor. Is the vibe good? Well you best bring one if you want one. Cos it’s not provided on entry. I’m told Cheers is the place to watch US sports live. They do have a big screen, and if you are in the CBD this is probably one of the few places that will broadcast it. I’ve never ever been in here when it’s busy. I can’t imagine that would ever be a good thing.

One if the few places you can count on to find an American sporting event in Oz(the other being The Star casino). Not much too this place. Everything about it screams mediocrity. 3 stars across the board. Food, drinks, service, atmosphere. .. only reason for going would be to take in a game.

This place is actually my local as I live a few doors down. It is a good place to come watch live sports and during the week, a quiet place to get a drink and chat. Forget special event nights, it is way too rowdy! Service is pretty good and the permanent crew as are cool, the rest of their numbers appear to be internationals looking to make a few bucks while exploring Sydney. The have some sort of nightclub down in the basement on the weekend but I can’t comment besides the drunks that spill out to the pavement in the wee hours are very messy. Food served here is your standard pub grub but it’s not bad value if you want to line your stomach before a few drinks. Pokie room out the back has variety of machines but it can smell quite rank in there at times.

Bit of a dump. Dirty tables and the awkward bar stools are loose and feel like they’re falling apart. Also a bit expensive.

«Four Stars Guida? Are you sure…» asked my inner Unilocaler(the snobby one with high bathroom-cleanliness standards and picky tastebuds)… but, yes, I’m sticking with this. Cheers is a grimy old sports bar located in the not-entirely-pleasant part of the CBD. It’s charmless really. Food is basic, drinks are reasonable, prices are average, décor is dated(this is on top of the fact that it’s designed to look a little oldschool), service is minimal and everything is/looks a little sticky. But… I kind of love it here. Don’t get me wrong… this is not a nice place to go for a night out or fun drinks with friends. In my opinion, the bar has a very specific role in Sydney and if you attempt to enjoy it in any other way, you will be disappointed(and/or grossed out). Cheers is a divey sports bar… nothing more, nothing less. I hate watching sport in shiny clean bars… it feels like a clash of cultures. I like my sports sweaty and macho(sorry lady-sports-folk… it’s just the way I am) and I like my sports bars the same way(although literally sweaty bars might be a bit weird). Cheers is where you go to drink beer, yell at a big screen full of muscly men and forget about being«seen». It’s where fashion goes to die… along with a few brain cells and probably a bunch of bugs… Appreciate Cheers for what it is, not what it very clearly isn’t. Watch some sport, eat some junk food and relax…

This bar is pretty good for sports fans. There are a number of large screens in the front bar area, and 3 – 4 smaller screens near the pokies for TAB users. Although the bar does not have a payout TAB on site, it has two machines which can be used to place wagers — you will just need to collect your winnings at another bar providing a full-service TAB facility. Moderate selection of beers, and GUINNESS too!

Cheers is a good place to start your night with some beers and pool. it can get busy on the weekends. get there early if your wanting a pool table on a saturday night. they have a good variety of beers and with 3 bars there isnt usually a long wait.

Don’t let the name fool you. This is NOT where everybody knows your name. I came here wanting to watch an NBA basketball game. When we walked in, there was hockey and horse racing on. It took a while to get the bartender/waitresses’ attention. I asked her if she could put the Lakers game on and she said that she was pretty sure they didn’t have it. I asked if they had ESPN and she said yes but was sure it wasn’t on. I asked if she could check and she begrudgingly agreed. She grabbed the remote and started flipping through the channels, when an angry drunk yelled, «hey I was watching the horse racing!.» Mind you, it was only 12 o clock in the afternoon. She flipped through a few channels and after the guy yelled at her, she was like, sorry its not on(but it was). We quickly left and went to Star City Casino where it was magically on. No cheers at this bar.

Another on the list of backpacker haunts, but mainly because they show live sports at all times of the nights. It’s become fairly redundant to me since I got Fox Sports in the comfort of my own home, but back in the day, it was a useful place to go! And my love of American Football has seen me watch the last 2 Superbowls here in their basement bar — multiple screens and beer deals. Works for me! When there’s no games on, it’s a pretty sterile joint, the sort of place you would go when you’ve exhausted all your other options, but come most Saturday(and even Sunday) nights, the place will be pretty buzzy with the English Premiership Games being shown on the big screen on the ground floor(and in the basement too), and I imagine there would be an excellent atmosphere for the big Gaelic Football/Hurling matches too. They usually have a poster up outside telling passers by what’s on, so check that out to be sure. So in summary, it’s an American themed bar, full of British and Irish, in the heart of Sydney. Brilliant!
