Actually this isn’t a bad pub, though it has gone through some changes since I first graced its doors many years ago(not that I can actually remember that time, but its location certainly does trigger some memories). Okay, it doesn’t have a beer garden, but that has never held me back from considering a pub to be a good pub. These days it is sort of a cross between a typical pub(along with all the trappings of a good city pub) and a thai restaurant. However, even though it is a Thai restaurant the menu does offer traditional pub grub — which is something that I haven’t seen all that much of these days. When I did come here for a feed I didn’t go for the thai but rather the traditional steak, and it really wasn’t bad. While it isn’t one of my favourite pubs in Sydney it’s still pretty good.

Had a bad stench soon as we walked in, Toilets looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in God knows… Staff walked over rubbish and just kicked it too the side! I like when my staff grab lemon/lime with their fingers when there are utensils there to use. VIP lounge was filled with cigarette butts galore. Don’t waste your time — go up the road to maloneys. Or anywhere else.

I hadn’t been to the Chamberlain in years, until it was one of the stops on a Christmas pub crawl. It was quite an awkward spot to visit on a pub crawl, because what I remember as being a regular pub, has transferred largely into a bistro. There wasn’t much room for a large group of people looking for a drink, especially as it was around dinner time and diners were also perched along the bar. I think anyone else looking for a drink would have headed straight back out to somewhere that was more a pub than a restaurant. The Thai food however smelt delicious, and would love to go back and try it some time.

C Bar is a great place for Friday night drinks. We stopped in here for drinks on a Friday night before venturing further into the city. The atmosphere is sensational lots of happy workers glad its friday night, awesome happy hour specials and fresh tasty free oysters — how can you go wrong! There is a huge selection of beers, ciders, wines and cocktails available, and the happy hour specials are great. There is also a great restaurant that is open until late and the food looked and smelled wonderful, although we didn’t try it we will next time.

Well, the bar it’s self it’s not too bad, I like of its location in corner of Thai town on Campbell street. Beer is cheap and they do have food too. My friends told me the Thai bistro is not bad, however in my opinion is just average Thai food that you can find better quality on the area surrounding. Had this crispy barramundi with basil sauce, just plain average, nothing special with that dish, snake bean that come with side dish is just blanch, no seasoning what so ever. Plain boring. Well, you never try you never know, right?

$ 4 schooners of Cascade pale ale are on the cards at the moment. Excellent. This is a great place to stop for a quick beer or two on the way somewhere else… if you know what I mean. Also, looks like the free-oyster-fridays have died a death and have been replaced by free-cocktail-prawn-fridays. Just doesn’t have the same ring to it. lets blame the GFC. I’ll miss those salty little suckers.

Ah, free oysters & massages between 5pm &6pm on Friday — AWESOME! We were regulars for about 6 months here on Friday nights, but then they started remembering who we were and it’s never a good sign in life when staff at a pub know who you are. Other pluses: friendly staff, reasonable pub food, friendly security, window seats, reasonably priced drinks. We go here often when we’re in the CBD(rather than Surry Hills), particularly Friday nights…

I’ve walked past and into the Chamberlain Hotel numerous times and for some reason never really noticed the signage out the front. The ‘Free Oyster Friday’ is something I’d like to attend but have never been able to get there between 5 and 6pm. The oysters are ‘recommended’ to be enjoyed with a Corona or glass of champers. There is live music there. Another sign which I hadn’t really noticed but I have been there on a Thursday night and there was a duo there so I could work that out myself. Although I must admit the main two words that caught my eye said ‘Clean beds’. I’m not really sure what to think of that. There is accommodation upstairs so I can only assume it has something to do with that and not the oysters and champagne people indulge in on a Friday night. Might have to check it out for myself!

Cool bar/bistro setting with amber lighted menu board behind the bar. I stopped in here recently when I met a friend for lunch during her lunch break. She works on Goulburn St, so we walked down to the corner of Pitt & Campbell to C Bar(at the Chamberlain Hotel) and took a look at their menu. $ 5 beers and outdoor seating means a smoker can enjoy lunch without being inconvenienced. This is definitely something I’m looking for when I’m on the hunt for a local pub lunch. Once I saw their Peri Peri Chicken Burger on the menu, I was sold. My mate, being a vegetarian, ordered the Oven Roasted Capsicum. Having a vegetarian option on the menu is ticking another box that is often required when dealing with different diet preferences. A cigarette and half a beer later, our Bistro buzzers lit up and vibrated indicating our food was ready — perfect timing! Also another aspect of service I am super impressed with when you’ve only got a strict 1 hour to spend with your friend until she has to go back to work again! I found the staff to be friendly and approachable and accommodating. Overall the food was down right decent pub food, and the beers were a moderate price. Again, catering for vegos, smokers and having an efficient cook in the kitchen and friendly staff behind the bar are all part of my pub prerequisites, making C Bar the perfect choice for a work lunch-pub break!
