Named after the great triumph of the English over the French(in a failed English campaign) the Agincourt is a standard hotel with reasonably priced drinks(given its location) and quality food. With the integration of «The Valve»(previously located in Tempe), there has been an injection of live music into the area. There are usually gigs on upstairs and lower ground all nights of the week(I believe Monday and Tuesday are the exceptions). The acts crosses all genres so expect Hip Hop, Indie Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal Core, Drum ‘n Base, House… etc. Check the website to see what is on( ). The crowds these gigs draw are usually super friendly people. Ground level has a jukebox with a nice selection of tracks. Contrary to the information on this website, Agincourt is open Fridays and Saturdays until at least 3am the next day. Also super friendly staff from the front door all the way through. Great place to go have a chat with some mates over a couple of pints of beer.

My favourite thing to say to anyone who spills a drink or breaks something is to wail«And that’s why we can’t have nice things!!!» This same logic applies to The Agincourt Hotel, which is located right near Central Station. That’s why you can’t have nice things. On a 50 metre stretch which might be some of the most drab and unpleasant city real estate, The Agincourt occupies the corner of the block. This phenomena is weird, cross the block and you’re at either UTS or Bar Broadway and things don’t seem so bad. But the Agincourt and its neighbours are a little rundown and attract a very grimy vibe. I really cannot think of any good reason to suggest this bar over any other, save for the fact that they do indeed serve food and liquor here. It lacks any sense of ambiance or personality. Better options await every where else.

Given its location(about as close to Central station as you can get) and décor, you kind of know what you’re going to get from the Agincourt Hotel the moment you step in the door. Dated music, smelly carpets, worryingly early happy hours and a big menu that focuses on stock student stodge(hello cheap burgers!), this is the home of the grungy student/backpacker and it’s not ashamed to admit it! Based over three floors, its got ample room and a variety of entertainments such as the pokie machines upstairs and the dodgy dancefloor downstairs to keep you occupied whatever time of the day you happen upon it. The beer prices are suitably cheap and you’ll usually find yourself caught up in a conversation with the friendly barmen or some colourful local who you get the feeling they know the Agincourt a little too well!
