I love this place… My hubby treated me to dinner here on Friday night and as usual it was gooooood. we ordered the goan fish curry — i could drink the sauce for hours… i love the coconut in this. Fish was tender and soft and melted in your mouth. Wiping up the sauce with my garlic naan is always a pleasure… Bombay Aloo — flavors are good and fresh Kadai Chicken — really good, the capsicum pops out in this dish with a lovely crunch and you get a full bang of its flavor brushed with onion. We’ve tried a lot of their other dishes and the spice is always excellent, recommendations by staff are always helpful and appreciated. We try to order something different every time we come here but some of the curries make me drool and I can easily eat the same thing each time i come back… I think for the price you pay and the quality of the food its a great find.

The service was impeccable(late session 10:10pm) the entrée arrived within 10min. The flavours and smells were aromatic and delicious. Would definitely recommend but the lamb naan was a little dry. Try the Rogan Josh, excellent balance of spice and herbs.

When you walk down this end of Cleveland street you’ll quickly find yourself in an Indian heaven– there are 3 or 4 Indian restaurants on this corner and all smelled absolutely amazing as my friend and I walked into Maya Da Dhaba. We picked this one over the others because of the Unilocal reviews(duh) and it certainly didn’t disappoint. We started with the vegetable samosa and quickly continued to the Tandoori Prawns, giant king prawns with amazing seasoning. For our mains we split an order of the chicken vindaloo curry and the shabnam curry as well as some garlic naan. To be fair, we did get«white guyed» with the vindaloo– I thought it was pretty spicy but my friend insisted that it was only about as half as hot as it should be. If you’re looking for blow your face off spice I’d recommend telling them that upfront. The service was a bit slow but all in all really great meal and somewhere I’d highly recommend. It’s also BYO!

I ate Chicken Tikka Masala all over Europe. This was the worst I was ever served. Too greasy and not very flavorful. It was extremely spicy(as in hot), but was strangely lacking in the delicious spice blend that normally is the signature of a tikka masala. Nobody ever even asked me if I liked the food, the service was pretty sloppy all in all. The pappadams were stale and they only served a raita with them, no other chutneys, which I found disappointing. A glance in the kitchen gave me the impression that cleanliness and hygiene is not their strong side either. Never again. There has to be better Indian food available in Sydney!

Maya Da Dhaba Assuming it has something to do with food, I asked the waiter what does the name Maya Da Dhaba mean(I also notice that the Indian restaurant across the road’s name also starts with the word Maya). He tells me «Maya» is a popular name in India for beautiful women but didn’t give me any further insight into the name. Anyways, this restaurant named after beautiful women or perhaps a beautiful woman is located in Surry Hills and is a popular Indian restaurant. So popular we got the lucky last table. My fellow Unilocalers had suggested I give this restaurant a try with big statements like«it’s the best Indian food in Sydney». For me, it wasn’t the best Indian food in Sydney. However, the food was delicious and did come out of the kitchen super fast. The menu is generous and well priced. A big plus for us was seeing Channa on the menu which is a Northern Indian dish made from chickpeas which we ordered and was tasty. The place was packed and it is BYO. It just didn’t WOW me enough for a perfect score. Solid four stars.

These guys serve the best tandoori chciken in the city. Good service and their fridges always have a good stock of KF premium.

I was headed to a little spice shop right next to this restaurant so when I walked by and saw it was all veggie I geeked out! First, the lady was very patient with me and recommended some of their most popular lunch dishes. I was going to make a curry later that night and didn’t want to spoil that craving so I settled on their plain dosa. And holy crap was it large! I had a coconut curry, daal and raita dipping sauce. It was chocker block full of rice and potatoes. Yum!!! I would say maybe a little on the salty side, but I finished it all will be back again

This place does have some yummy food. Starting with this yummy snack. savoury bits of snack we would have back at home in India… were really yumm! As we were a big group of people. we ordered about 7 to 8 different dishes! Being a vegetarian I cann vouch by their Paneer dishes and the Dal Makhani was yummmm. The Naans were fresh, soft and perfect! Dessert was Gulab Jamun and Kulfi… both again delicious. Ambience and service is not bad at all. Cozy and nice I would definitely go back. But yes most dishes seem a little toned down in heat and masalas which works for me sometimes especially for Paneer(Cottage Cheese) and the lentils.

I eat at my indian restaurant back home in Stockholm once a week, so when I moved to Sydney for a while, it was important to me to fint a great Indian restaurant! And so I did. The service was great, the food came quickly. A little bit noisy, but hey, every Indian restaurants are supposed to be a little noisy! ;) The naan I ordered(with raisins and coconut) was great, but a little bit too sugary. The one back home is a thousands ways better. But, over all, the meal was great, the staff was great and the prices as well! Will definitely go back!

Best Indian restaurant in Sydney(from what I’ve tried) The food and service never fail. Consistently good in the 10 years I’ve been going there. Gets packed on the weekends so make sure you book. If you’re with a group, you can’t go wrong with the banquet. Enjoy!

It has been a while since I last came here. I had almost forgotten how awesome this place is. Just take a look at the numerous awards this restaurant earned and you would know this place is genuinely good. Started off with samosas as as entrée. Boy, were they good! Deep fried to perfection, the filling was lightly spiced and the tamarind sauce went really well with the samosa. For main, I ordered the Goan Fish Curry. Sooooo delicious, it might not be as spicy as other dishes on the menu but the flavour was good. Service was really good too. Every table ordered at least a glass of mango lassi… i guess i would be trying that the next time :)

Seriously THE best Indian restaurant I’ve been in. The staff are always friendly and always smiling. This has become my go-to restaurant EVERY week! I’ve taken family, friends and sometimes strangers, and they are left speechless. Paneer Makhani, the eggplant dish, the chickpeas, the biryani, the Dahl — don’t even get me started with that one!!! All dishes are simply THAT good! The flavours, the spice and the whole atmosphere — this place is a MUST for anyone to visit! Gotta stop it right there, and finish my meal. Hehehe

I really like this place. Their curries are great and I really like the butter chicken. Their garlic and Cheese nan bread is awesome. The staff are very friendly and the food was quick. It’s easy enough to get a table. There’s a lot of competition for Indian food on Cleveland Street so it will need to keep it’s standards up.

Food quality was very average and the curries didn’t seem very fresh. The only thing I liked were the naan bread. Ambience was below average and the look and feel is very tired. Parking is an issue around here.

Nice restaurant, great food, second time here and second great time. Chicken masala was yummi and very spicy, but paneer and dhal are still my favourites in that place. Enjoy :)

Even with all the other great restaurants in this part of Surry Hills, this place was totally packed on a Wednesday night. I enjoyed the paneer tikka masala, and for $ 13, it was definitely a good deal. The garlic naan was also quite good. Not sure I’ll ever get used to having big pieces of bell peppers in my curries, but I’m sure they would adjust that if asked.

You would think from reading all the positive reviews that you must be on eatability and all the reviews are fake. Fortunately, you’re on Unilocal and here we have standards. This place actually is amazingly good and has the best Indian food I’ve eaten in Sydney for a while. I had always seen this place advertised on the back on receipts with buy one main and entrée get a main free. I’m Asian so 2 for 1 is always good. A time finally came when my friend and I decided to feast on Indian in surry hills. So I walked into Coles and deliberately typed in the wrong pin a few times so I could get a really really long receipt which had a Maya Da Dhaba voucher at the back. Armed with my voucher, I arrived to the very busy restaurant and they made room for me and my friend without a booking. We ordered calamari rings, butter chicken, Dahl, nann and rice. Everything arrived in a flash and even came with free pampadams and dip. the calamari rings entrée was the size of a main, was crunchy with none of that tacky rubbery taste and texture. The butter chicken was just devine, thick not watery like most and you could differentiate all the spices, none of that tomato sauce after taste from the nasty ones. The lentil dish was great, you could taste the lentils, no mushiness! When the bill came we couldn’t be any happier, with the voucher it was all up 40 dollars for an entrée, 2 mains and sides. It was so great I would actually come back without a voucher and pay the prices. It’s that good.

I stumbled across Maya Da Dhaba through a recommendation from a friend saying it’s the best Indian in Sydney. I want to punch them in the face for not telling me about this place earlier… think of all that wasted time! We rocked up around 830pm on a Friday night and there was already a massive queue… this place must be good. We were told the wait wouldn’t be long and they were right, we were seated within 15 minutes. This place is lively, the service quick and friendly, and the food is just rich buttery goodness… plus BYO. We decided to pig out and ordered samosas, 6 kinds of curries, and a mixed bread basket. The staff was great with their recommendations and even prevented us from ordering one dish because it was too similar to another one. Everything was spot on… we actually ordered too much. Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Beef Vindaloo, Lamb Korma, Chicken Rogan Josh, and a mushroom one I don’t recall. We ordered too much… but all that was roughly $ 40pp for 4. This place makes you want to forego your utensils to slop up all that delicious curry with your naan/roti. I know I did… and Maya Da Dhaba may ruin other casual Indian places for you.

Franchement j’ai trop hâte d’y retourner.
