There seems to be quite a lot of pubs packed into a small area of Surry Hills, and in fact this pub is located on a corner where there are four other pubs(and there are another six a short walk from here — it would make a pretty awesome pub crawl). I’ve been here a couple of times and this pub isn’t all that bad. Sure, it isn’t one of the best in the area(especially with the stiff competition) but it isn’t bad. Out the front there is a smokers balcony, and the staff are really nice as well. However there isn’t anything hugely fantastic about this place.

Looks like GTs, The Madison and Central Hotel are all owned by the same group, Thomas Hotels which means it’s $ 5 beers(tap and selected imported) all day! Wednesday night they also do $ 8 jam jar cocktails 5pm — 8pm. I’ve seen this venue undergo many transformations, I’ve seen many a band play there when it was the Gaelic Club and even watched a few B-grade horror movies there in the early 90’s when it was the Encore Cinema. Now they have a Thai restaurant«Buddhabing» on premises and the food is pretty damn good. Tonight I had Chicken Larb, which set my mouth on fire but in a good way. The steamed dim sims were pretty decent too and definitely hit the spot.

Stopped by for a drink after work, ended up staying the whole night! Staff were friendly, service was great. I particularly enjoyed the Thai food. A great venue without the City price tag. I regularly have lunch there now($ 8.50 lunches are great value) They also $ 5 beer and wine everyday, so I am definitely a fan! The upstairs areas looks like a great place to have a party as well.

I was looking forward to a great time with friends last night at the GT’s Hotel for my wife’s office farewell party. There was about 15 of us all out on the deck chatting and, at our most jovial, singing and dancing to the live music. We were keeping to ourselves and being civil and respectful, and at any rate, the bar cleared out after the music finished leaving us basically the sole patrons. So it came as great surprise around 11:00PM when, unprovoked, a bouncer approached two of our group who had been playfully ballroom dancing and told one of them he was being cutting off from drinks. When my friends inquired(reasonably) as to why, the answer they received was having their drinks snatched from their hands, being grabbed by both arms and pushed towards the door. The bouncer then proceeded to tell all of us to stop drinking and leave immediately. We tried to reason with him, but he was utterly unwilling communicate. We asked to speak to the management but were summarily denied. After such a shameful treatment, my friends and I were happy to take our business across the street to The Exhibition Hotel. I suggest you do the same.

I was here last night for a gig and it was just marvellous. I loved the balustrade on the balcony and the way that double height makes the venue feels spacious, but intimate. It’s also super close to Central Station and all the nice restaurants around Surry Hills — making dinner before the gig a very simple task. The bartenders seemed nice and jolly, and though I’m not a huge fan of sipping out of plastic cups, a beer, Bulmers and lemon, lime & bitters for $ 15 seemed pretty reasonable. Each artist during the gig sounded amazing, so props to the technicians — though they had a bit too much fun with the lights sometimes. Can’t believe this was my first trip to The Gaelic, but I’m an instant fan.

Great centrally located entertainment venue, there is always something on here, be it comedy or live music, they have the monthly events calendar up with plenty of time to choose which nights you’ll come along for a gagging night out laughing. Plenty of Irish pleasantry fills the space, the beer, the smiles the humor. All with the Irish slilt that offers the mystic Isle much pride. I would recommend this pub for a show and drink — it is a venue where many tourists attend as well as up and coming artists to scope their competition and other local talent.

Doing a play at the Gaelic Hotel in Surry Hills I spent quite a bit of time in there during general hours when people would come in after work for a quiet white wine or pale ale before the trip home, during the play hours when people would come and sit in the arranged seats and eat and drink while they watched the show. I’d see the people sit in the pokies for hours on end. I’d eat food that came out of their kitchen, drink at their bar and sit on their chairs, and I got a good idea of what the Gaelic was about. It’s a performance venue, the pub in itself doesn’t seem to draw too big a crowd unless there’s an event on, and these events don’t necessarily be live music, they also play host to theatre, comedy and trivia. With a history of attracting some pretty reputable bands, the Gaelic Hotel has a reputation in the industry as a solid performer in these areas. The space is well laid out with seating for 60 people downstairs, 250 capacity should they be standing, and if there are more people, they’ll even open up the upstairs area, which overlooks the stage like a balcony. There’s a pool table, a photo booth and buck hunter in the back room and a smoking area out the front. The food is well priced and of substantial size and the bar staff are cool and interesting people.
