I don’t think the current ratings do this place any justice. I haven’t tried the food, however, coffee, desserts and especially the service are fantastic. The desserts are exactly how they would be made by Italian housewives, creamy, sweet and just the right taste you’d expect. The coffee is also very well done, no burnt after taste and just frothy enough so that you don’t feel as though you have rabies after consumption. The service, my oh my it is amazing!!! The hobbit sized Italian waiter mentioned earlier is sooooo gorgeous! He’s from Sicily and treats everyone female like Richard gere did in pretty woman, always introducing himself and even giving freebies of raspberry sorbet the last time I went. We felt so loved, you can’t leave without falling in love with how adorable he is. I plan to go back for food soon! Just meet the little waiter, you will see why this place is great!

I have mixed feelings about this place. Had a Saturday lunch with mates at this place. We started off ok with three starters fritto misto, warm seafood salad, and beef carpaccio. The food was nice and at this point we had a great server. We then got or mains which were good but not amazing. This is where everything went downhill. Our waitress disappeared and we did not see her again. There were at least 10 staff setting up for dinner ignoring current patrons. People actually came in waited so long and left. We did want dessert but after trying to track down service we approached someone about the bill who looked like he couldn’t be bothered. I then had to go to the cashier to pay the bill… at 25 bucks for a plate of pasta u should not have to go to a cashier… I realized how upset I was and ask to speak to a manager… A girl came over and did not apologize but just said they were short staffed(yet they had 10 people setting up for dinner) … The food was average and there are much better places in Sydney in the same genre

2.5 star average for this place? I’mma up it. I like this joint. Had a coffee meeting here so can’t comment on the food(although should that really stop me doing so?. .. yeah, probably). The charming Italian waiter — young, clean-looking dude, ’bout 4 feet tall(hobbit-sized, really) — flashed me aroguish smile and challenged me to get the Café Sicilia, an espresso with a giant dollop of delicious, ice-cold cream. Simple sure, but a taste sensation to this punter. The constantly refreshed water, attentive service, lazy summer arvo and black-and-white check tiles combined into a warm, caffeine-fuelled halcyon memory, one I shall always treasure and probably never be able to recreate whenever I go back.

Traditional Italian restaurant, even the menu is in Italian. It is fantastic, antipasto, pasta first course, then the secondi, main course, salads and deserts. Eating is quite an extravagenza for the Italian culture and here at café Scillia you can experience it the way it is. The restaurant is set out like an Italian villa, with an al fresco area that is undercover, it is more formal than casual although you are welcome to stay for coffee. It is very popular and always has tables full. In the Italian tradition groups are very welcome especially families. I would take the kids along to this restaurant I think they would enjoy it. The food is well made but it is not too delicate that children would not know what to do with it. Prices are around $ 20 for most dishes, steaks and chicken dishes are a little more, credit cards are accepted and they have a full bar.

On Crown Street in Surry Hills is an unusual fancy restaurant called Café Sicilia. Smack bang in the middle of a whole range of bohemium, relaxed and comfortable café’s, sits the plate glassed Sicilia complete with waiters in white tuxedo’s and snooty attitudes. After a couple of beers at Shakespeare’s, we ventured up to Sicilia for a late night hot chocolate to continue our conversation and ultimately say goodbye. We were shown to a seat and the waiter took our order and then bickered with another about the water and who’s table it was, in what seemed to be a strangely autocratic leadership approach. It took a while for our water to arrive and we had to ask various waiters, and I recall one such response was, «I’m not your waiter.» Very helpful. The hot chocolates were good, creamy and chocolatey, as one would expect of the drink, though we didn’t feel particularly welcome once we had finished them. We paid and felt inclined to give a tip, though the service wasn’t really that flash and left that unusual café/Italian restaurant in search of bed.

I was thinking about having ‘a chat’ with my boss but before I could arrange it I was invited out to a team lunch, Works shout. So off to Café Sicilia at the Redfern end of Crown Street, Surry Hills we went! It’s a pretty big place and we chose to sit outside. It can be quite busy and noisy with people and traffic but not bad none the less. Needless to say with work paying we ordered entrees, mains and a couple of drinks(wines). And there was plenty to choose from too. It seems the highlights of the day were the eggplant parmigiana and the prawn and zucchini gnocchi. Not to mention the glass of red. Dessert anyone? Why not, work is paying.(Have I mentioned that yet?) And we’ll need to wash it down with an espresso too. Café Sicilia was nice and the food was great but boss, we need to talk…
