Three words SERVICESERVICESERVICE!!! Not much to say about his place but… «get your butt there»(if you like seafood). Food was fresh and delicious. We had the hot platter for 4 and we did not come close to finishing it(it was huge). Scallops were the bomb! BYO which is fantastic. The service was exceptional! Thumbs up Pier 26!!!

Pier 26 on Valentines day, is the perfect place for 2 people who want to be showered in a glittering mountain of seafood and chips and salad, prepared with all the love and romance a chef can throw at it. A last minute booking, saw us in at 8pm, complimentary glass of Champers to take the edge off and a couple of bread rolls. which in hindsight were probably unnecessary considering the epic plate of all of the wonders of the sea, which was about to be laid before us. Wasnt sure if it was BYO(it is) but luckily the Wine shop across the road was still open, and my plucky Valentines date was about to impress me with a Bottle of Vintage Clover hill Champagne…(But the wine shop is another review in the making) We ordered the Hot and Cold seafood Platter on the recommendation of a friend who used to live locally. It’s about $ 100 for 2 people plus if you want to be greedy like me and also have Lobster add $ 40. Trust me when I say this seafood platter should really be for 5 people. You can add extra diners to the deal for an additional $ 5 a head. Well worth it if you are not starvin’ of the Marvin kind. You can also order an all Hot platter or an all cold platter. There are quite a lot of delicious things on the menu. Most other diners that night were not so gung-ho with their ordering as we were, and I saw some relatively«normal» sized dishes being served up. The owner John was a lovely man, who came and introduced himself to us and regaled the tale that he’d been there for nigh on 14 years in the high street. He was just as perplexed as I was, as to why I’d never actually eaten there before in my 3 years living in the area. And he told me that most of his customers were just«locals». Clearly popular enough to keep him in the game. All in all the food is awesome, huge, more than youd expect from the unassuming dialed back, simple Décor when you wander past this restaurant. There was even a Duet of a singer and Guitar player singing love songs and Jazz numbers to up the ambiance. There was only one thing that slightly irked me, and it was the Waitresses attitude. But I guess it was a night when most people would prefer not to work. Otherwise I would have definitely given this a 5 star.

Pier 26 was the setting for the most romantic date of my life — with my best friend. My friend had grown up in Sydney’s outer-inner west, and had been dying to take me to Pier 26 since I moved to Sydney. So, one whimsical night, we decided to take a walk to Summer Hill(we were living in Croydon at the time) to check our Pier 26. With a bottle of Pinot Gris in one arm, our purses in the other, we arrived at the little restaurant oblivious of the beautiful night that lay ahead of us. Whilst Pier 26 doesn’t look like much by day, its ‘open’ sign illuminated by neon lights, come nightfall the restaurant takes on a warm glow and an unexpected cosiness. Our waiter was a lovely older man who helped us out with anything and everything we needed, making the night flow smoothly without any cause for concern. The oysters were fresh, salty and delicious, and the perfect precursor to the rest of the night. But the scattering of rose petals on our already romantic night was the saxophonist that began playing in the square opposite the restaurant at some point during our mains. Serenades by his bluesy tunes, the waiter told us how he and his wife used to dance in squares all the time, and as we looked up, at least six people were dancing to the saxophone, swaying side to side under the fairy lights. So, after sharing a dessert and fishing the last of our wine, we joined Summer Hill’s sweethearts for a moonlit dance. Pier 26 provided us with a beautiful night and perhaps even more beautiful memories — this is my only hesitation with giving it a fabulous rating, for I can’t be too sure if the restaurant was indeed amazing or if it has had the fortune of being romanticised by the rose-coloured glass of my memory.
