If you’re afraid of lacklustre Japanese food, you can banish the thought from your mind. Fat Fish constantly excels regardless of which dish you order. Make sure you order the Katsu curry at least once. Heavenly crisp chicken, flavoursome curry and flawless rice in generous portions every time. An inherent drawback to being in the markets is the occasional difficulty finding seating, consider avoiding peak times. This is made much easier by their breakfast special(8−10am ish) which I cannot recommend higher in both taste and value.

YUM! I am always going to love Japanese food but have been witness to some limp average Japanese in Perth. Luckily, Fat Fish Food is not in this category. My friend and I could not decide what we wanted to order and it was the pictures that sold us on going with Fat Fish Food. I ate Chicken Nanban($ 12), which looked good in the picture but I wasn’t too sure if I was making a mistake because I have no idea what it is and my friends crunchy golden katzu looked like heaven in a bowl. Luckily I ordered well and I was really happy with the large serve smothered in a mix of Japanese mayonaise and mix of teriyaki/soy sauce. I’m going to come back here and try more because they have a good range. good prices and real people serving sizes.

Like the rest of the Subiaco Market food court, Fat Fish Food is cheap, tasty and seems permanently busy. It serves a wide selection of Japanese dishes, including sushi and hot food, and, like the rest of the Subiaco Market food court, it always takes me ages to decide what to have. Luckily, the friendly staff are always on hand to help me through my indecision with their wise recommendations. I particularly enjoy their Teriyaki chicken and Katsu curry, although it is quite heavy and I can’t always finish it — but nonetheless it’s tasty and satisfying. On a busy lunchtime the food can sometimes take absolutely ages to come — but there are lots of hungry market-goers to feed. I understand. And when it does arrive it always arrives with a smile.
