We went for a family dinner recently and I felt it was nice without being special. They were due to change menus later in the week and there was no fish available, no pork belly available and no veal available. Given it is not an extensive menu, it pretty much left steak and pasta dishes. I had the steak and it was nice enough but I would not say it was nicer than a decent steak at another restaurant. I also had the aranchini balls and again nice but lacked seasoning. For dessert, between the two of us we had the chocolate slice and the donuts. To be honest, the donuts were no more special than a hot jam donut van and the chocolate slice was nice but again, did not blow my mind. Finally, the service was friendly but a bit slow-one entrée came out about 10 mins after everyone else’s. And then they forgot a coffee at the end. At the end of the day, it was nice but would definitely try a few other places before heading back anytime soon.

Visiting from Minnesota USA. FANTASTIC! Our hosts were celebrating their 24th wedding anniversary and invited us with a couple of their friends. This place was perfect for a celebratory meal! I had the seafood fettuccine and it did not disappoint. My husband had the clam, broccoli and olive pasta and stated it was delicious. The small tastings entrée was out of this world! Arancini, something else that was amazing, and the best calamari I’ve had. The wait staff was fantastic too. Our glasses were never half empty, they refolded our napkins if we stepped away, and were friendly. Make sure to visit St. Kilda Pier before coming here for supper to see the little penguins!

Been here a couple of times, both times on half price dimmi deals. Lovely location, attentive staff, great wine list and cosy dining area are the highlights… Unfortunately the food is so so, particularly if you have to pay full price.

When planning my short break to Melbourne this weekend I checked with TripAdvisor for the best restaurant in St Kilda — it came up with Sapore — definitely didn’t disappoint. Even though I was a single diner(we are often treated poorly), service was impeccable, and I was treated as though I was the only diner. Went to Italy in 2010 and this was the best pasta I have had since. Great service, food and ambience — highly recommended.

I recently visited Sapore with friends who were visiting Melbourne from Perth, who have two small children. The staff at Sapore are overwhelmingly friendly & helpful; the food is to die for gorgeous & the kids menu is also really varied. We enjoyed our night at Sapore & my husband and I plan to return soon.

I went here on NYE and the staff were very friendly. Had a beautiful 4 course meal including a glass of bubbly as part of the deal. The delivery of food was a bit slow(understandably given the occasion). I had the«Pig on a Spit» as my main. It was a bit bland for my taste and wasn’t hot enough when it was served. The tiramasu was delightful and disappeared into my stomach in a matter of a minute. The place has a comprehensive wine list and intimate setting — perfect for a date. My rating would probably be higher if I went to Sapore on a normal night but some of its shortcomings were due to it being new years eve!

This inviting restaurant is enjoyable for lunch and dinner. The bright and open dining area complete with linen napkins, candles and fresh flowers is warm and inviting, and will instantly have you ready to be wined and dined. It’s not pandemonium inside, and you won’t feel like you’re being hurried out the door after your meal either. It’s a modern twist on Italian-style dishes using seasonal produce to create fresh and creative dishes; it’s reasonably priced too for a restaurant with an Age Good Food Guide Chef’s Hat! The service was friendly, attentive and competent, especially when recalling the intricate and mouth-watering specials. There’s also a buzzing alfresco dining area out front with tranquil bay views. It’s a great restaurant to relax over a meal with special friends and family for any occasion.

I have never eaten here but sitting here now at this perfect location overlooking the water, watching the sun start to dip, and indulging in a great glass of sangria. So that is a-ok in my book! Will come back for food. The people are nice, the décor is ok, but the sangria is delish!

Sapore is one of those rare restaurants you can always rely on. They have one chef’s hat and have done for the last three years, so they actually deserve to be a little obnoxious, however they have just the right balance of relaxation and refinement. Its got that touch of class without being stuck up. There are many restaurants along the ever popular Fitzroy St that on Monday to Friday offer a lunch deal. Sapore offers a $ 28 two course meal or $ 38 for three courses, and a glass of local wine. I had two courses and decided to have two entrees as I wasn’t very hungry and I just felt like the beetroot carpaccio with crème fraiche and then the crisp calamari with aioli and lemon. The wine choice is limited with the lunch special as you would expect, and I was a bit disappointed by this as I would of loved a Riesling, however when the 2010 Raven Park Chardonnay from Victoria came out, I was totally satiated by it.(You can try the 2009 Raven Park Shiraz, Victoria if you prefer) As I stated before, you can totally rely on this restaurant. I wasn’t thrilled by the carpaccio as it didn’t seem very ‘raw’ to me, however, the rest of the meal, the service, the Riesling’s we purchased after lunch and the atmosphere all lent itself to a thoroughly satisfying Friday lunch. This place will always deliver the goods.
