This brand new food truck just happened to open the same week as I happened to move to Melbourne. Coincidence? I think not. The truck serves a Mexican street food specialty, found in the cities that straddle the U.S./Mexico border in Arizona and California. So, here you have a food truck that is serving the original food truck food… a danger dog. It got that name because it’s a hot dog wrapped in bacon. For awhile the health department in L.A. would try to shut down the hot dog vendors for fear that the bacon must be undercooked and therefore a danger to unsuspecting customers. Obviously, the U.S. has it’s share of nanny state laws. But you can’t keep a good dog down. This street food can be found in the U.S. from the East Coast to the West Coast — and now in Melbourne too. The danger dog here is wrapped in crispy bacon and the fresh roll is piled high with onions and capsicums. The top is garnished with ketchup, mustard, and mayo. But, if you just really want to have a flavor explosion in your mouth, they also make a version topped with guacamole and pico the gallo. I highly recommend this version. The couple running the truck are super nice and excited about their new venture. Check out their facebook page or webpage to keep tabs on them. Sure, it’s not the healthiest thing you’ve ever eaten. But, sometimes you have to live dangerously.
