If you’re looking for mexican food… don’t go here. Seriously the WORST mexican food I’ve ever had in my life. I ordered a chili a sada taco and a shredded beef taco. It was chili taco, and the shredded beef was gross. The taco shells are store bought pre formed shells. The salsa… wait… what salsa? Ask for hot sauce… but beware… it’s nasty. Tastes like pasta sauce with a bit of a spice to it. Try it before you put it on your food. Yuck. The shredded beef nachos are gross. It’s «salsa» is seriously pasta sauce. Thier beans are black beans… that’s not mexican. Thier rice… horrible. Shredded beef burrito… nope. Pass on that too. The sauce is too cheesy(never thought I’d say that) and still has absolute no flavor. Asked to have the rest of the burrito to go… took 15 minutes just for them to put it in a box. When we asked for the check it took quite a while. The restaurant only had two other tables, so it wasn’t busy. When the guy dropped the check, he gave it to one guy and said it looked like the other guy couldn’t afford a meal. Uh… RUDE. I guess bad service is standard in Australia. But jeeeez. This was awful and a waste of $ 70 for 3 people. No thanks! I’d give –3 stars if I could!!!

Came for a drink before our reservations at a different place. The Golden Margarita was strong and delicious! It’s just what we needed.

I eat at this Amigos like once a week and it’s always great. But tonight I ordered two small nachos. We are only bought one bowl out. He doesn’t even apologise for getting our order wrong and angrily says«do you want the other one then?» And is so mad at us and said it would take another ten minutes, time which we didn’t have. When I paid for the meal the guy serving asked how everything and we told him we were very disappointed and he didn’t even apologise! Just took our money. I spend a lot of money here and ate here a lot and I’m not coming back now due to the rudeness. I get you can make mistakes of course, but you guys were SOSO rude.

This place was nice. Beautiful sunny day, everywhere on Acland was packed, but we found some outdoor seating here. Tex Mex food. Had some Coronas, nachos and salad. Staff were cool too. It was good, not exceptional or really special, but nice. I’d return, I had a nice experience, but just don’t think it’s anything to write home about.

Went here recently to use a voucher I purchased through Groupon, worst use of money, ever! Most restaurants use Groupon, or the like, to help promote their business so will generally offer great service, food, etc., not this restaurant The food was awful, the«sangria» was watered down crap, the salsa was worse than anything I’ve purchased in a supermarket. We ordered a paella which first off, isn’t even a Mexican dish, but a Spanish dish! In addition to that, they then put coriander in it!!! It was disgusting! Whenever will you see a paella recipe that calls for coriander or cilantro??? NEVER, that’s when. And really, makes me wonder why they sat us upstairs, all alone, away from all the patrons downstairs… hmmm. Needless to say, this place left a bad taste in my mouth, never coming back!

Tex Max in St Kida is what you get at Amigos. I called in for a quick tourist lunch :) and ended up with a couple of top quality Tacos. Hard Shell Chili Con Carne Taco was full of right meat/Bean mix smothered in shredded cheese Tasty. And a special trial. A soft shell Pork Belly Taco which was delicious For those wanting something savoury on Acland St. you could do a LOT worse.

Not very nice food. We went twice to give them ample chance to meet our expectations and both times we were very disappointed. Too expensive. Very slow average service! They did not offer my husband another drink and we were still hungry after eating there(since the food was so average we couldn’t eat it) we stopped at maccas on the way home. We were seated way too close to another table(so close that a stranger’s elbows kept bumping me and we couldn’t even talk to each other without someone overhearing every word spoken!). Won’t be returning!

I was taken here by some very awesome friends on Saturday night for my birthday. We had an amazing time. The food was great — we ordered all vegetarian, and started with nachos and portobello mushrooms stuffed with cheese and herbs, and then we each had the vege sampling plate(I think that’s what it was called) — it had a taco, a quesadilla, and other stuff. We also did some ‘flights’ of tequila — 5 types of tequila served awesomely on a wooden tray, and some amazing frozen margaritas. The girl that served us was really lovely and funny, and we had an awesome meal experience. It helped that I was there in very good company. Best birthday dinner ever.

Amigos are a traditional Mexican Restaurant that has a few locations in Melbourne. They obviously are going for a more«classy» look than the very popular«Taco Bills» where I’m not sure if it works. The ambiance is a little too boutique where it’s not exactly gourmet and I didn’t feel«classy» going there. However, they have prices that will compete well with other Mexican franchises where the food is well presented and pretty good. Still, it is mostly tacos, burritos and fajitas. They have a good spot right in the middle of Acland Street where I’m sure it’s a very popular place for lots of people who want to get diner before hitting one of the many bars on the street. I think if they toned their look down a bit, it would perhaps have a touch more appeal.

One bad meal here and it soured my entire Amigo’s experience. In summary: The waitress poured hot cream sauce all over a brand new silk dress that I was wearing, didn’t apologize and then made me get up and get a cloth to clean her mess! When the cream sauce did not lift from my dress neither her nor management offered to dry clean it and only removed the cream dish from the bill which wasn’t even my meal to begin with! I think came back with the dry cleaning bill a week later and made them reimburse me. There is still a stain on the dress wear the sauce was and I haven’t worn it since. Although their food wasn’t’ enough to bowl me over(not quite) It was a shame as their menu was full of great Mexican dishes and they also served great cocktails.

If you’re sick of the generic Mexican-from-a-box you get at restaurant’s such as Taco Bill, Amigo’s could be your answer! With flaming hot décor to match the spice of Mexicana, it’s the closest I’ve come to authentic Mexican tasting food in Oz. I’m a massive fan of Tapas, and Amigo’s delivers one of the best Tapas menu’s around. I love the Menu C Tapas option, for which you get nachos, chimi changa, a garden salad, the scrum-diddly-umptiuos combination signature fajitas, Mexican rice, frijoles and tortillas, and churros. For $ 45 it’s a Mexican feast, amigo! And you can’t go Mexican without a decent margarita or cocktail; so here’s my tip, go the Rosy Mamasita — sounds sexy doesn’t it! The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is fun and energetic and the food is tasty. Think I might go there tonight!

Gracias Amigo! Amigos is a traditional Mexican restaurant located on Acland Street. In keeping with the hot and spicy cuisine, the interior is decorated with lots of bright, warm red furnishings and offers very simple and casual dining with a good Mexican menu selection of all your favourites. Food choices for me, who is not the biggest fan of greasy cheesy nachos and the like, are meals like the Mexican Mejilones — Fresh Tasmanian Mussels steamed in a spicy herb and Chorizo Broth, perfect for entrée. For main I like the Chicken, Honey and Seeded Mustard Burritos that come with a generous serving of Mexican rice and frijoles, very tasty. To drink, of course I can never go past a traditional Mexican Margarita! They have a selection of classic Margaritas as well as some new contemporary mixes. For something a little bit different try the Signature Plum & Cinnamon Margarita, it’s both sweet and spicy at the same time.

I don’t know why Mexican is always so expensive in Australia. Certainly, it’s not the ingredients — I can whip up a fairly good burrito for under five dollars. Anyway, regardless, it is how it is. This isn’t to say that Amigos isn’t nice — it is! Their food is very good, the servings generous, and when my brother’s fiancée showed them her new engagement ring, the waiter insisted on shouting us each a tequila shot.(Admittedly, it was eleven o’clock in the morning and we were having breakfast. That said, they certainly didn’t stint on the tequila quality.)

If you have read any of my other reviews o Mexican restauarants, you would know that I am eternally searching for authentic Mexican in Melbourne. Now, dont get me wrong, I still love the other stuff, and theres not much in my like a good plate of enchilades or margaritas couldnt fix. But Im still searching for my holy grail. Truth be told, this is not it. I really like the simplistic décor, the wait staff are very friendly, and a meal here is always enjoyable. Some of the appetizers here are really great, like the chorizo y fresas — sausage with a fruit salsa) and everything is quite tasty. But just on a side note Amigo’s, Paella is not Mexican.
