Here for a last minute budget weekend — The Claremont came out on as the best value. At $ 72 per night you can see why! I was greeted by a very friendly chap in reception who was courteous and incredibly helpful, explaining everything I needed to know very carefully. The room on the 2nd floor was small, containing a bunk bed, small desk and a tv. I noticed that the ‘fan’ on the ceiling had a remote control — but no blades! The toilet facilities are shared and are clean and practical, but the wait to have a shower became a tad frustrating, constantly having to stick my head out of the door to see if they were free. Continental breakfast is available as a part of the package and although I didn’t have any — it looked very edible. All in all — for a budget hotel you can’t go wrong. Greatly located, clean and near to transport.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Claremont, and for a remarkably cheap price. A friend and I were in town for the Melbourne Cup($ 350 up, since you ask) and were amazed to be able to book a place of such quality and service for $ 35 each, per night. A complimentary breakfast was a welcome bonus, as was the proximity to the bars and restaurants of Chapel Street and the train station. I would highly recommend anyone staying in Melbourne to make the Claremont where they lay their hat!

Me and a friend stayed here while in a short 1 night trip to Melbourne. We stayed in a twin room(bunks), which cost $ 72 for the night. The cost was great for travellers on a budget. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist, check in was fast and we were told where the hotel amenities were around us. Our room was small, but had bunks, small desk, small bar fridge, fans, small TV and plenty of power points for chargers etc. The room was tidy. The bathroom/toilets were shared but were kept tidy and had a towels and complimentary soaps etc. We also got a complimentary continental breakfast in the morning including tea, coffee and juices with cereals, toast ad preserves and fruit. The brekkie cost nothing so no complaints here. They also offer free wifi. Outside the hotel there is a tram stop(route no.8) and the South Yarra Train Station so public transport is easily available. I would recommend this hotel to anyone one a budget who wants somewhere basic to sleep! Ticked all boxes!

Great value for money. Excellent location near south yarra train station and chapel street. Clean but modest rooms, decent space with shared bathrooms. Somewhere between excellent hostel and budget hotel. Beautiful building and free breakfast add to the experience. Overall great experience – would definitely stay here again!
