Atomic has become one of the central South Perth coffee shops and I am not sure if this is because there is a lack of competition or because Atomic maintains a good standard of food and drinks. The café now offers a range of alcoholic beverages in addition to their coffee, tea and cold drinks including smoothies and juices. The breakfast bruschetta’s are a good option for breakfast and I enjoy the nasi goreng for a treat lunch. The cakes have never hit me as exciting and seem quite expensive although the banana bread toasted is always great. I have had mixed experiences with the beverages having a great smoothie one day only to be disappointed with the same one the following week. I have had the same experience with staff influencing the standard of coffee or ice coffee. Be aware that you might have to wait for a table on this loud venue and you might be surrounded by Lycra clad cyclists not only in the morning but any time of the day!

Love this place! Its our local café and I look forward every weekend to having breakfast here, always good. Great coffee too and friendly service. I know my older neighbours complain its a bit too noisy and buzzy but that’s what I love. Have visited the one in Claremont and its really good too, perfect for some lunch between shops!

A great lunch or coffee place to meet with friends. You have to place an order at the register and it can get quite loud but e food and service is great. Loads of fresh salads and other healthy looking fare to choose from. Coffee is good.

Had breakfast down at Atomic this morning and had a very pleasant experience… food was fresh and taste and served quickly!!! The only challenge there was the place was filled with lycra wearing bike riders, the stentch of body odour and sweat was a tad off putting…

A great spot for a business meeting or a late weekend breakfast. The coffee is about a 6⁄10 and the service is friendly and fast. Not in my top 10 Perth cafes but is a good spot if you need to be in South Perth.

Even though they don’t do table service I’m definitely a fan of breakfast at Atomic(even if I have to queue for a table, then queue to order). Been here a few times and I haven’t been disappointed. The muesli is a favourite of mine, and the coffee is a nice smooth blend(I’m always a fan of places that have their own blend). Even at its busiest I haven’t had to wait very long for food to come out. It’s just a bit too popular some mornings.

A regular hungover customer. Good service, good eggs. They should ban people in cycle clothing though. It’s just not civilised.

I don’t often go out for breakfast but when I do the quality of the poached eggs can be a real game changer at a place for me. Basically I want to cut into my poached egg and to have that happy sigh moment where the yolk dramatically cascades out like a golden river onto your toast. I got this at Atomic. Top notch poached eggs. We arrived early so had no dramas with seating, but it was definitely full to the brim by the time we left. Service had been friendly and our meals didn’t take too long to arrive. Definitely wouldn’t mind heading back.

Expensive. Cramped seating. Very poor service. This place is a total joke. Ok a great location and setting but guys I would not only not recommend you to my friends I would actively encourage them to stay away. Total disgrace.

The Atomic Café was a nice place to grab a cappuccino in South Perth if you’re already there, but nothing special. I liked that they had a good drink selection(S.Pellegrino Limonata, etc) but I definitely thought the food was way overpriced. At those prices, they should have a waitstaff, not make people stand in line. The outdoor seating was also incredibly uncomfortable.

I don’t get this places popularity. It is crammed full of little table and chairs, so you have to do the equivalent of playing twister to get to and from your seat and god forbid if anyone has a pram. Their is no table service, which means on a busy morning you have to stand around waiting in line. If you are by yourself you have no chance of securing a table before you order. The food portions are generous, but the food is pretty average. Definitely edible, but not much better than what I could have whipped up at home, and I believe I am a crap cook. People can’t be coming for the atmosphere, when busy it is noisy and uncomfortable. I don’t get it. What am I missing?

I’m with Claire H on Atomic Café. I have a friend that lives just down the road from Mends St and she alwasy wants to go to Atomic Café. But I am not really fussed. It is always busy, especially on the weekends. The tables and chairs are crammed, so much so, that getting in and out can be a precarious balancing act. You have to order at the counter, which on busy mornings means standing in line, trying not to bump into anyone. The food is average café fare, which is overpriced. There is no wow factor or extra delicious food. It is not somewhere I would choose to go.

My good friend brought me to Atomic one Sunday after raving about their eggs with smoked salmon. The café was brimming with customers; South of the river darlings with perfectly blow-waved hair and wrists stacked with silverware. There was cluster of bikes and their lycra-clad owners sipping lattes, in the alfresco seating too. I got my regular coffee, which was satisfying but my poached eggs with mushrooms were simply just poached eggs with mushrooms. Yawn. I’m quite befuddled why my friend is such a fan; the menu is quite ordinary and grossly overpriced. It’s frustrating. Atomics popularity, which I can only put down to a lack of competition, has inspired some desultory if not arrogant service. They know customers are out of options so they’re not too bothered about an inventive menu or service with a smile. I think I need to introduce my friend to some new places.

I love to see a packed out café, because you know the food has to be good, and clearly the vibe is gong to be good too. I must have Italian roots because I love restaurants where the tables are close together and the sound of the patrons chatting serves as the background music. Atomic is just such an establishment. Although not Italian it has that kind of vibe. It’s actually a great place to get breakfast on the weekends — big plates of inventive and enticing breakfast meals as well as the old favourites. You just have to have an eye like a hawk to grab the next free table!

I do like a busy café, but this one is probably too much even for a people-person such as I. It was by some crazy miracle that I was accidentally standing next to a couple who decided to leave at the exact moment I was manically looking for a table for a Saturday lunch. Once we settled in and the table was cleaned, we realised that we had to order at the counter(I HATETHAT). I understand why some cafes do that, but this one was too pricey and nice-looking to pull it off. I ordered a chicken salad which was pretty nice. The tables are kind of close together and everyone’s talking so it was hard to have a proper conversation. There was also a constant flow of people walking around looking for a free table. We ate, then had to go back to the counter(which was packed) to get coffees. It was annoying, or maybe I’m just spoilt. Either way, I will take more time to think before going there at peak-hour again…

Atomic is probably the most frequented café by Perth’s lycra-clad riding population. And with good reason too. It’s nestled on Mends Street, a couple of minutes from the South Perth foreshore, and the breakfast and lunch menu is thorough and inventive. I’m a big fan of the breakfast bruschettas here — only 8 or 9 bucks I think and they are delicious(especially the mushroom and fetta). Coffee’s pretty good too and the place is always buzzing — you get that real sense of community when you’re dining. It’s practically a Perth icon.
