South Melbourne market has limited good coffee options so this is your go to for a hit of the bean, on the fly. Service: 8⁄10 Ambience 4⁄10(better for takeaway) Coffee 9⁄10 There are cakes and sweets on display but let’s be real, there’s way better places to get that kind stuff from around here!

Top quality coffee! No eftpos limit either, so fear not if you have no cash on you! Staff are friendly and it’s a great spot to sit and relax after walking around the market!

Padre is Perfection. As you stroll through the South Melbourne Market, spending all your money on delicious fresh produce and bits and bots for your home, save a few dollars for the best coffee you’ll have all week. If you don’t have time to wait, just grab a takeaway and keep wandering, but if you can, take the time to sit and contemplate life amidst the heart of all the market action. The baristas are busy busy, but always friendly and extremely knowledgeable about their beans. Try the Daddy’s Girl blend with your latte. Then go and buy some freshly shucked oysters from the nearby seafood stands! Or some macaroons! Or some cheese! Or fresh dip! The options are endless. Perfection.

Don’t be discouraged if these guys are busy. The friendly staff are quick to turn around orders weather you’re taking away or sitting down and watching the world go past. I always find the coffee to be consistent, so I keep coming back :)

What a great little coffee shop. The coffee is excellent, the service is friendly and they have yummy little pastries. On top of that you get to sit in the middle of a vibrant market and watch all the people go by. Great way to spend a weekend morning, I highly recommend it.

In addition to having some great beans, Padre have a full range of barista essentials, like tampers and milk jugs. Friendly staff have lots of knowledgeable advice to help you choose. I like the Daddy’s Girl blend for my cappuccinos. Of course you could also get a coffee while you decide.

I really like this place. Not only does it make a great coffee for when you’re wandering around the markets but it also supplies you with all sorts of things just in case you wanted to do the same at home. They’ve got everything you need for a home café. The coffee they make is great just like all Padre coffee. The café probably is not as good as its nearby rival Clement, but it is still very good. Grab a coffee as you’re venturing the countless stalls of the South Melbourne market.

This marks the final review of my Australian vacayyy. The staff were super smiley and very friendly, the location a nice oasis of caffeinated awesome in the midst of South Melbourne Market, and was a perfect sit down break in after browsing the clothes/trinkets section just before I headed to the land of produce and meats. The coffee was okay, not spectacular(I confess to being more impressed with Seven Seeds when I was there the week before), but no slouch. Somewhere I’d happily hit for a morning coffee everyday if I worked in the market I guess. It seems more like the kind of place you need to visit regularly to develop a rapport with the staff to make this truly special. Still, A-OK in my book!

Padre is one of the first coffee shops open each morning at the market which is a plus. It also has lots of seating. My go to coffee there is just ok though.

Thank goodness for Padre, because with so many quality handcrafted blends to choose from, your coffee senses won’t know what’s hit them! From its own designer blend made in Brunswick to its seasonal African and Central American blends, you won’t be stuck for choice; they also specialise in decaf coffee too. And that’s not all they do! They also specialise in grinding, coffee machines, chocolate, tea, chai — Oh the list goes on and on! With top roasters and baristas taking pride with every cup poured, there’s no better coffee in town. Also check out ‘The Brunswick East Project’ café where it all began! Tip: Ideal for take away only as there is very limited seating inside the South Melbourne market. ‘The Brunswick East Project’ is a spacious café to catch-up for coffee with friends.

This is my favourite coffee shop in Melbourne. Great friendly service, good muffins, and excellent coffee. You can also buy various coffee-making implements, and all their roasted beans blends are available for grinding. Get thee to the South Melbourne Market and enjoy your Padre coffee.

I’m a Padre loyalist. I simply can’t get enough of the stuff. Padre’s coffee perfection is no secret, which means this place is almost always bursting at the seams. I brave the crowded market every weekend to get my fix(yes, I AM mad!), while stocking up on beans to take home. Say hi to the lovely staff if you get a chance. They’re usually pumping out coffee at the speed of light, but will have a chat at quieter times.

I used to live south side and Padre was one of my favourite Sunday afternoon spots. I’d sit out in the ‘VIP’ section in the alleyway with a long mac and ponder the meaning of life. With beans roasted at the East Brunswick Project outlet, Padre do a pretty good(consistent) coffee and serve them up in beautiful ceramics made by Karen Ho. There’s always some single origins to try, Larsen and Thompson teas, juices and a couple of sweet things in the counter cabinet. You can swing past and pick up coffee equipment and beans, or just make a pit stop before you battle the crowds at South Melbourne market.

One thing that South Melbourne Market so desperately needed was really good coffee. Padre saw this need and swept in to fill that void. And thank god for that. The coffee here is pretty good and is miles better than anything else that was on offer by the food stalls in the food court. They also have a range of nibbles and things, which may not be the best around but considering you’ve just dropped by for a coffee fix you might as well get your snack on here too. Oh and if you order a large coffee, you’ll be given a bowl of coffee!
