Always great coffee here. Menu has some good variety and great vegetarian options if you have any with you(we did.) Carnivores won’t go hungry either though as they have good options. We live locally and of the multitude if Seddon cafés, we find ourselves eating here most often.

This place has gone down hill. Badly. Previously I had only eaten here on a quiet weekday, when the service was expedient and the food(especially the baked beans) was pretty good. After a four or five month absence we swung by again, and were very disappointed. Our server was unpleasant and unprofessional. No greeting or smile was offered and when we expressed our intention to split our massive dish of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon he shot us a glare. When the meal was delivered, it was dumped on our table with no extra plate offered. The food was under seasoned and not very well presented(i.e, a huge pile of eggs seemed to be dumped on the toast, there was no lemon garnish for the salmon). The coffee tasted burnt. On a positive note, the baked beans are still smashing, but that is not enough to warrant a return visit to this dreary café.

The food here has changed since they first opened, and now most options are too stodgy for me. Still my first choice in the area for coffee and atmosphere though.

My first time out in Seddon. I was with my girlfriend on a beautiful spring day and we were famished. Walked down Victoria street, admiring the cafes and multitude of pet supply shops before arriving at Charles Street, and BOOM! Chicco was right in front of us! The outdoor dining and restaurant was bustling, yet inviting. We were quickly seated outside in the sun and given some menus. We ordered two local juices from Emma & Toms… the juices were good, although had a bit too much apple juice in them for my taste. I do LOVE that they offer locally-made juices though, a welcome difference from your typical juice selection. After much deliberation with the menu, which involved interrogating our waitress on two accounts, I decided on the pesto eggs on sourdough toast, with field mushrooms and avocado on the side. My girlfriend had the special vegetarian masala chickpea patty slathered with mango chutney and homemade hummus, served on a bed of rocket. Two things: growing up in the USA/Canada, two translations I did not know: 1) Field mushrooms = portobello mushrooms 2) rocket = arugula (Just a lil’ FYI for my north american peeps) My eggs on sourdough were AMAZING! I wish they put a little bit more pesto on because it was extraordinary and I wish I could put it on EVERYTHING! The wilted spinach that it came with was unimpressive, but a bit of salt and pepper did the trick(the seasonings, not the 90’s pop duo). The two sides were perfect, I love how they seasoned the avocado with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. My chickpea patties left something to be desired… while all the flavors were there, the sweet potato and chickpeas took over, making it seems kind of bland and a bit on the dry side. The chutney and hummus really helped the patties go down, but they could only help so much. Having water/juice to wash down the meal was a requirement. One thing I wanted to say was the PORTIONS were GREAT! I was hungry and I found that Chicco served almost American sized portions, for a decent price(averaging around $ 12 – 16). Service was AMAZING and FRIENDLY. Since we were outside the whole time, I went inside to the bathroom and found the décor absolutely wonderful. Trendy, but welcoming and not too hipster/pretentious. I don’t know how long I’ll be living in Seddon for, but I will definitely be recommending this place for my mates.
