The front of the store was certainly inviting, but once inside things changed. The setup is almost identical to that of Munster Haus, but without the charm, finesse, or value. Their numbering system for what is vegan, gluten free etc. is confusing and quite frankly, the worst menu system I have ever seen. The food was good but definitely not worth the price. Especially when there is another place doing the same concept with better food and a lower price. Also the shop keeper insisted on telling me that all Gluten Free eaters were making it up, and then spun a whole diatribe about global warming, degredation of the environment, and how we all need to grow our own food but we won’t be able to in this scorching near future. I came to eat and give you my money, not to sit in on a crazy lecture. Will not go back.

As a non-practising vegetarian, this is the best place to get non-meat food that I know. And the staff are informed, friendly and helpful to boot!

While working out of an office nearby for a few weeks, and using Unilocal /HappyCow to find nearby vegetarian lunch spots, I happened upon the name Tofu Shop. I didn’t have my hopes set too high, since the area was otherwise pretty barren of vegetarian faire, but I gave it a shot on my third or fourth day there. It was really excellent. Best thing going was stuffing a takeout tub with a wide assortment of their pre-made, ready-to-go stews, salads, tofus in various sauces and sautéed veggies, then paying extra for a small side of brown rice. All in, about $ 15 Australian(obviously). I think I came here three or four times in two weeks. A very reasonable price for lunch in the area, and tasty to boot. Wouldn’t mind something like it near my office in downtown Toronto!
