Quick and polite service. Very generous portions and very reasonable price– $ 60 for 2 people inc 2 meals, 2 beers and dumplings.

*Review incomplete Everyone loves phở, don’t they?! It’s not my favourite, but it does the trick. Broth isn’t as good as places in Footscray, and they don’t use Vietnamese mint, but normal mint, which I don’t like. Bit cold and drafty inside, but if it’s cheap eats you’re after, then you’re in luck!

Freshness is the key when it comes to Vietnamese food, and this place definitely doesn’t buck the trend. We started off with a serve of roti bread with a satay dipping sauce. Had that little bit of a chilli kick in the sauce which was awesome. The roti bread was good, but they tended to have the edges a bit dried out, however the majority went down well. Had the vermicelli noodles with salad & grilled chicken which was great. The freshness, the coriander, and especially the chicken. Really nice and filled the spot. Service was good & the guy serving us was polite. The food was served super fast. It was like we actually got served the roti bread before the wait staff even finished writing down our order(over exaggeration there, but I’m sure you can understand where I am coming from. Downside was the set up of the tables. There was no real street feel of this little place. I just love those little cheap Vietnamese/Chinese restaurants that have the little stands on the tables with a whole bunch of chopsticks for the next 30 customers. The missing arrangement of your soy, fish & hoisin sauces on each table(we had to borrow someone else’s from 3 tables away) and most importantly the bowl or flakes of chilli to accompany your meal. Was disappointing not to see these items on each table, however not a deal breaker.

I had the following: Rare beef phở Chicken satay skewers Asahi beer The price was great and not being a Vietnamese cuisine connoisseur it seemed quite good. Lots of customers too, which indicates it must be pretty good :) The standard price for all beer regardless of label was $ 8, though, so I’m guessing they make their money back on this :) Service was pretty good too. All-in-all a good cheap option for a night out.

If you live at the opposite end of Richmond to Victoria Street and are short on time but dying for a fix of Vietnamese, this could be your place. I really enjoy their vermicelli beef salads. Tasty and fresh, but sometimes they have heaps of chilli(to the point of it almost being too much) and yet other times it’s non-existent. Never mind. It’s good either way. I’ve also sampled the beef phở, but didn’t have a good experience. Maybe it was an off night, but from now on I will be sticking to the salads and making the effort to get to Victoria Street for my favourite phở. I have never dined in, having only had takeaway, so can’t comment on the service. However, the takeaway is always prepared quickly and is reasonably priced — maybe not as cheap as some places on Victoria Street, but it’s still affordable.

My most favourite beef phở lives at this unassuming place. Is it the best or most well known Vietnamese restaurant in Richmond? No. Do I see apparitions of this delectable soup, and feel disappointed by how others make it? Yes. I can’t vouch for the other dishes as I obsessively only order the Beef Phở, but my partner and parents love everything they’ve eaten here. Service is friendly and prices are dirt cheap. Don’t write this one off. You’ll thank me when you taste the phở.

Richmond is famous for Vietnamese food but the Swan Street end certainly isn’t where it’s at. Love Phở is not at the cheap end of the market either, even though its atmosphere is nothing to write home about and it’s food only average. The meal I had was fairly overpriced in my opinion. Bits of spring roll with dipping sauce and lot of salad for $ 16. All beers are $ 8 regardless of quality — cheap vietnamese beer alongside Mountain Goat and Coronas. I don’t mind paying $ 8 for a decent beer but $ 8 for watered down cheap imports is a buzzkill. On a warm evening the restaurant was uncomfortable due to the lack of airconditioning. Little floor fans weren’t cutting it at all. I’d imagine its cold in winter as it is all tiles and mirrors with no heating in evidence. However, on plus side(depending upon your point of view), there is lots of naked ‘erotic’ photography on the walls. Makes for interesting dining…
