Great spot to have breakfast, small place but with a big heart, staff is always friendly and smiling

Amsterdam St used to be really good. REALLY good. Not sure what happened. Went back recently for coffee. I asked what coffee they had, they said«single origin». I asked where it was from. Was told«Sydney». I don’t really need to say any more, do I? (Actually, it was a blend, as it turned out…)

When I first moved to Australia, this is the café that welcomed me into the world of coffee culture! Beautiful coffee, amazing food, and the best staff I’ve ever encountered. On the weekends they’d serve their«Rosti» with poached eggs and rocket, they have amazing soup specials in the winter, and have incredible sandwiches as well. The chicken sandwich was my favourite! Ownership of the café has changed, and it doesn’t have the same feel. I’ve even heard rumors that the owner was bitching about another customer in front of customers. Not right. Even the coffee didn’t taste the same. A lot of the staff have moved on, and so have a lot of the regular customers. Including myself. 3 stars, because I know one of the chefs I knew is still working there, and I’m sure he’s holding up the quality of food. Also, they serve Noisette pastries. Try the pear danish it’s finger-licking good.

All good things come of small packets… is that the saying? Hope so cos it is true for Amsterdam Street! Tucked away on the hustle and bustle of Church Street this little hideaway is a haven for good coffee and amazing lunching! So the coffee — it is a good strong brew, served with love!.. read more at my blog

I went down a side street to shoot some graffiti and stumbled upon this cool little café and ended up staying a few hours. Besides the cool ethos, the great music and wonderful food and coffee, the staff are super friendly and know how to take care of their customers. On more than one occasion i was asked if I was ok and wanted to order more. Attentive staff seems to be hard to come by these days! Anyhow, they make everything fresh, fresh, fresh and make it wonderfully well. The eggs were divine, as was the toasted pide, and at the end of my coffee swigging and food chomping session, the bill didn’t cause a run on the National Bank of Australia! If you are in South Richmond, then this is definitely a «must-go-to» place.

Amsterdam St is one of my go-to cafes in Melbourne. I’ve yet to have a bad meal or a bad coffee in dozens of visits. They are also one of the cafes that regularly stock Sugadeaux Cupcakes.(Definitely try the Red Velvet cupcake). You can’t go wrong with their poached eggs. I also regularly have the the BLAT… But, as I said, I’ve never had a bad meal here, so it’s definitely a menu you can explore.

Because Amsterdam Street Café is tucked away from the main Church Street foot traffic, its pretty easy to just go by and not notice this gem of a find. Being surrounded by furniture stores, advertising companies and creative agencies however keeps this great little café on its toes all week. But unlike other more well known cafes in the vicinity, Amsterdam Café tends to keep a more down key(read: affordable) character which is appreciated completely. One of my favourite places for breakfast when I used to work on Church Street, Amsterdam café keeps its meals interesting and low priced — which is far form what other places in this mixed use area can claim. Try the Mushroom, goats cheese an thyme omelette — it’s a delicious rendition for the senses. Or if you have a sweet tooth(like I do) you must have the French toast — generous portions of thick cut bread which are deceivingly light and satisfying. Maple syrup comes on the side so you can choose how sweet you want your breakfast to be.

Fantastic neighborhood café tucked in a side street right off Church St. During the week they specialize in salads and sangas, with a variety of baguettes available. I’m also addicted to their lamb sandwich which is served on the most amazing olive sourdough. They also make a variety of 3 – 5 salads, and you can get a mix to eat in or takeaway — perfect for those of us trying to get ready for summer. Coffee is always reliable, and on the weekends they offer a different menu. Try the potato rosti — so good! Ive known people to order this dish(which already comes with prosciutto) with bacon on the side. Win win.
