We like to go to Pron Prohm for the décor. Seems like a weird reason to go to a restaurant, but Pron Prohm is pretty special. Walk up the steps and into a 1970s ranch house, complete with tacky Thai Airlines memorabilia, and some really fabulous examples of 1980s tourism posters. Say what you like about it being tacky, tasteless or overdone, this place sure has character. There’s dark wood laminate, lime green, decorative elephants and an awkward looking wooden bar in the middle of the restaurant. And what of the food? By Sydney’s competitive Thai-restaurant standards, Pron Prohm is not in the A-List, but we’ve been quite satisfied with our meals there, especially when we order the specials. Don’t expect miracles. It’s always quiet, you can always get a table, and sit near the windows, gazing down onto Redfern Street.
