The interesting yells of the local addicts to the right and the Chinese dialect echoing from the kitchen to the left inter spliced with the sound of the outdoor traffic, these are the things you would expect to hear in a restaurant located in the Surry hills shopping centre also affectionately named the murder mall. An older Asian women lifts a large soup ladle in the kitchen making my wonton soup that much closer to me. I wait for an acceptable amount of time and then grab my take away container when it comes. The first bite of wonton is perfect, it exceeds my expectations. The broth is tasty and the noodles are excellent as well(I switched to rice noodles) albeit a bit hard to eat with a fork as they break into pieces — I should have gotten chopsticks. I delight at the flavours in the soup and enjoy the greens that they’ve included. I think it’s safe to say that I will get take away from them again. But this 4 stars is for the flavour only, I’m not suggesting you take a date here nor is it a must visit. Delightful take away though and pretty quick!

This is your typical Chinese restaurant. For a restaurant with noodles in its name, they don’t have a wide selection of noodles. We ordered some egg noodle soup and beef pan fried noodles. Both were just OK and nothing spectacular. I guess we can say the noodles didn’t turn out soggy so that is a positive. It one of those dirty Chinese restaurants that could have more potential.

This place looks like it belongs in Eating World… it’s a grimy no frills Chinese restaurant in a shopping centre and that’s not a bad thing at all. Found in Surry Hills Shopping Village this place primarily does your go-to fast food Chinese dishes, with some Malaysian to boot. I’ve been here twice and I’ve had the roast duck laksa, the sweet and sour pork, the special fried rice, and the eggplant. Surprisingly for a place called Noodle Star, the Laksa is just OK. Everything else though, is pretty tasty and can be purchased for $ 12 or less. The fried rice is on the expensive side though. Definitely a local type place with cheap and tasty Chinese food, worth a visit if that’s the food you want and don’t/can’t venture out to Chinatown. Everything is self serve.
