We have visited this restaurant on many occasions with family and friends. The food NEVER disappoints and the staff are wonderful. It is easy to book, but have missed out getting a Sat night booking once before, as it can get quite busy. There’s a nice outdoor area to dine during the warmer months. Seriously great food and you won’e be disappointed.

Arrived on a Thursday night for dinner and the restaurant was completely empty. Not the worse experience to have the whole place to yourself. We quickly ordered. We opted for Bakwan Jagung, sayur which is deep fried corn fritter with vegetable. This one was particularly tasty and a large portion size. We also shared some Lumpia Basa. A sweet turnip wrapped with rice paper and some shrimp. Also a tasty dish with nice sweet sour dipping sauce. For mains I ordered Padang curry Chicken. A beautiful chicken dish slow cooked in coconut milk. The portion size was large. It was half a chicken and the meat on the chicken was incredibly tender and simply ripped right off the bone. I really enjoyed this one the sauce was delicious. My friend ordered Ikan Pesmol which was a snapper fish deep fried in sweet and sour sauce with some fried onions and herbs. It was quite a tasty dish too although was challenging to eat with all the bones. Overall the food was really great in here but felt it was a little over priced and more Indonesian food tailored towards western people rather then authentic Indonesian food which is what I would prefer which some other places offer. The food we ordered didn’t come out together which is a basic requirement for fine dining and considering there was no one else in the place that wasn’t an impossibility. The hostess was very friendly and openly chatted about Indonesia with my friend as Bali is his home town. Nice food but unlikely to go out of my way to return there but still enjoyed it.

After reading the reviews on Unilocal I tried out this restaurant. Firstly the lighting is too bright inside the restaurant. Mood is all important and creates intimacy. I sat down but it didn’t reflect that cozy atmosphere that is advertised on the restaurant website. Where was the soft music and candles? Turn down the lights and bring out your candles for a perfect ambiance like at Jimbaran Bali! The food here is wonderful in taste and is cooked to perfection. As mentioned in other reviews, it is in the moderate to high price range for such Indonesian dishes. Worth it? Yes for the taste but in some cases no for the portion size. For entrée I ate Sate Ayam or Chicken Satay($ 13.90). This Indonesian style Sate served to your table on a hot charcoal grill with side accompaniment of peanut sauce and pickled cucumber. A lovely presentation of an old favourite and so tasty. For mains, I ordered the Padang Chicken($ 18.90) which was a good meal portion. It was half a chicken cooked slowly in coconut milk with mixed spices & herbs. The taste reminded me of a thicker version of «Opor Ayam» served in this case with a padang style curry sauce. I also ordered a dish synonymous with Indonesia — Beef Rendang. This traditional beef curry was slowly cooked in coconut milk with chilli and fine lime leaves until a thick mild curry was formed. The taste was towards perfection! I loved this dish but was disappointed with the portion size. There were only five small beef portions in a dish of Rendang sauce(see photo). Not good value for $ 17.90 but after all the taste was the highlight! The staff were attentive and very polite and I couldn’t fault the place except for lighting and portion size. If management did this, your restaurant would be full. Three stars on this occasion.

This Indonesian restaurant is definitely on the high end of the many choices of Indonesian restaurants in the eastern suburbs and while in my opinion caters more for the westerners, doesn’t mean the dishes served aren’t delicious. We came in early on a Saturday night in a group of five, yet despite being one of the first few customers, the food certainly took a while to come out. We ordered Corn Fritters and Deep Fried Prawn Spring Rolls for entrée, which I thought were just ok, nothing special to rave about. For mains, we ordered Ayam Bakar Anugerah, Padang Chicken Curry, Chicken Satay, Lamb Shank, Lamb Fried Rice and Kangkung Tauco, all of which were a big hit around the dinner table. Everything was very tasty and definitely worth the wait we had to endure. The cost was approximately $ 30 per person and everyone left with a happy stomach. If I had one tip I would say get them to bring out all dishes in one go rather than waiting around between when entrée and mains were served. And they only charge $ 2 corkage per person so don’t forget to bring those bottles of wine with you!

Why isn’t Indonesian food a ‘thing’ !?! The food, easily comparable and as delicious as any Thai, Malaysian or Indian cuisine around was only trumped by the attentive and cheerful service by the waitress’ and owner. Coming in as a group of 9, we had a good opportunity to try a bit of everything. The highlights for me were anytihng dipped in the unashamedly hot Sambel Ulek and Beef Rengang. I will most definitely be making a return visit.

I have yet another amazing Indonesian cuisine experience to share. Jimbaran is a reasonably high end Indonesian restaurant in Randwick, their main meal prices range from around $ 15 to $ 30, so you can spend a little or a lot. My dish of choice was from the $ 15 end of the spectrum, choosing the Ayam Bakar Anugrah, which is a grilled chicken dish. I am glad I did not spend $ 30 as what I was served for $ 15 was spectacular. It was half a chook, slow cooked in palm sugar and served in peanut sauce. Meals like this are so good to have in a restaurant, because it would be so difficult to cook a dish like that yourself and to cook it well is another story, so to pay for someone to cook it for you is a pleasure. And a pleasure it was.
