Soho Bar & Lounge

Soho feels like being stuck inside someone’s house who has a deafening stereo system, dysfunctional choice in interior decoration, and is conducting a bizarre and cruel experiment in cultivating sweat by mashing too many people in a cramped and airless downstairs room and generally making it difficult to order drinks, both based on general decibel levels and sheer volume of people.
The upper floor is a little better: it airs out and has some seating while also seeing a decent amount of population flow. You have a number of better options in the Cross and will generally feel better about paying a cover charge to get in at any of these alternatives.

Soho is one of the worst clubs I have visited in Sydney. Despite being advertised as «Sydney’s No.1 Venue», I couldn’t think of a more depressing place to visit. It’s so dark you can barely see, the floors are sticky and the place reeks of seediness. While some seedier clubs can sometimes exude charm, Soho has none whatsoever. Instead it has gone downhill over the past few years and no one seems to talk about it or «check in» on their Facebook. You have to pay entry, the drinks are expensive and the music is dreadful– think electro house (nothing you can have a proper dance to). Everyone here is either really drunk or high on something– not the greatest atmosphere. The venue is just plain dodgy!
The Soho does have funky retro rooms available for functions or reserved seating for those who wish to have birthdays. Drinks seem to taste very watered down which was a major disappointment considering the price. The place is too overcrowded and even if you’re on the guest list sometimes they will override this.
