Nautical Restaurant & Lounge

I won’t lie to you it’s nothing special. Produced to cater to the tanned and the tourists it’s reasonably priced but the service is woeful and the wine list is non-​existant.
The food was alright but it lacked any flair of creativity. The lunch special menu looked like avery bar menu in town. Fish and chips. Steak. Boring.
There are near identical venue in every port town. Do yourself a favour and find somewhere more original. And if you do eat here, negotiate a table with a view — it’s what you’re paying for.

I’m not one to venture down to Port Melbourne too often as I feel that part of the city is a bit Surfers Paradise-​ish (not that there’s anything wrong with that.) But when I found out Nautical had introduced a new head chef and the celebs were flocking I had to check it out.
All the restaurants down here on 3 Station Pier are fairly generic and personality-​less, filled with expensive furnishings and quiet but talented staff and Nautical is no different. However the food is what makes it special.
The menu offers a wide variety including eye fillet, raspberry oysters and the VERY impressive seafood tower for two which I wanted to tackle by myself but my date wouldn’t let me…
The atmosphere is quiet and intimate, however the night we went there was a 21^st happening in the function room next to the restaurant area which was slightly annoying (I don’t really like listening to Sexyback while eating my steak!) Plus there was a stream of crying girls in the bathroom which brought back many memories (why do we always cry at 21^st’s?) So while I’m sure that doesn’t happen every night, it was a bit frustrating.
A full bar is available but with a limited cocktail list with only the generics available, however if you want an delicious meal by the water made by a talented chef, this is the place to go in Port Melbourne.
