Found this place really disappointing. Got there at 1.30pm for lunch and staff made us feel like we were bothering them. The mushroom regatoni dish was cold and I felt like they would have bitten my head off if I’d complained. No table menu just a chalkboard with 6 choices. Perhaps they were ready to close for the day but 1.30pm??? I found the grab and go café attach to them(different owners) much more hospitable and better coffee! Sorry! If these guys want to make a mark in the Melbourne café scene, then they’d better lift their game!

Beef Curry is awesome. We headed over here after a local training at the Vodafone office and left pleasently surprise at the service and simplicity but tasty options for lunch. Grab your food here and if you are in need of a haircut stumble next door to the classic Uncle Roccos.

Fairly slow service for a place which would typically have corporate lunchers but overall a good experience, think it’s worthy of 3.5 but not quite a 4! I love the all day breakfast menu and had the salmon with asparagus and poached egg. Delicious! The wine list is minimal but the Trebbiano I had was crisp as promised. Would go again, just know to allow more time!

Merchants of Port is a new café taking over the spot from Salford Lads Club. The front yard tyre swing is gone, but the inside is relatively unchanged in a large warehouse conversion style café. I’m not sure when the industrial area of Port Melbourne decided to be hipster… but if you’re looking for a slice of Fitzroy on the Southside, there’s a barber and men’s clothing store next door. The menu is solid and covers all bases — an all day breakfast menu and tasty salad, toasted sandwiches and burger options for lunch. Coffee is from Sydney’s Single Origin Roasters. Bunnings warehouse is just one street away. So if you’re elbow deep in DYI projects and looking for a bigger food fix than the classic sausage in bread, Merchants is your best bet.
