Safari Sunday: Publican Group Elite Event

Bit late on the review… but better late then never right?
First elite event and was great fun! It also confirmed my inability to play lawn bowls…
Was a pleasure walking around to all the different bars PGA has to offer. All of which I knew of and had never got around to checking out.
The Aviary was a great place to start and enjoy the sunshine and socialise. Although I’m not sure if I’d be going back any time soon due to the fact you can smoke on the deck upstairs.
The George impressed me with the High Tea teaser they offered. Definitely something to line up with friends for a «sophisticated» and laid back afternoon sometime. I do miss the high tea that the «Tea Merchant» used to offer before they closed their doors.
Finally the best for last Wolf Lane. I had heard good reviews of the place and I was impressed with the friendliness of the bar staff and drink range. I have already been back here with friends, definitely worth having to wait a bit for their cocktails.

Worst elite ever… can’t believe I am only getting around to writing my review now!
What a day! I loved every second of this event because of the opportunity it gave me to chat with so many other fabulous elites! Also winning a bottle of bubbly at The Aviary for best on field for lawn bowls was pretty amazing too!
Getting to experience a bit of high tea at the George was also fab, as Canadians are not so big on the high tea thing. I really want to do a Sunday high tea with the ladies soon!
Ending at Wolf Lane made the event though, the cocktails were so tasty and the staff were knowledgeable and very nice. I am a massive Alice in Wonderland fan so the décor was very much to my liking!

In honour of my 5 stars I am going to doll out the 5 highlights of the arvo.
1. Pimms. Can’t every event I walk into have this fresh thirst quenching fruit added flavour frenzy drink in jugs on the table?
2. Bar chat. It was fun, funny, quirky and quick. I felt it was informative without being boring even though I used to work in the industry for years.
3. The décor at Wolf Lane
4. The quiches and meringue bites, YUM-​oh-​MY!
5. Unilocalers and Co. Such a delight to spend a day with such inviting and kind folk.

How Unilocal events keep upping the ante, I have no idea! But, they keep getting bigger and better! What’s better than 1 bar? Three! What’s better than a bar with free booze? A bar with lawn bowls! What’s better than free coffee? Coffee with mini quiches and lemon tarts! What’s better than more free booze? A DIY lesson! Throw in a goody bag and it’s like the best Sunday ever!
Thank you so much Laura D-​licious, Publican Group, The Aviary and staff, The lovely ladies at the George, and Ricardo and the whole gang at Wolf Lane Bar. Everyone was so personable and nice ( Unilocalers included). Why can’t every Sunday be like this?! Not sure how this event will be topped, but knowing Unilocal,it will be!

What I liked most about the Safari Sunday event was the format. It maximized the socialising between the bunch of Elites that turned out in their Sunday Safari best. I managed to chat and meet so many Unilocalers that I only knew in the virtual world so far!
The weather was delightful as was the elite event. It was great to check out the three venues, The Aviary, Wolf Lane and The George at such a relaxed pace. I’ve visited some of the bars previously during bustling Friday after work drinks and you really miss the detail in some of these venues at those times.
The George was complete eye candy as we walked past all the tables set for their Sunday high tea. It was nice to nibble on a sample of their menu (I say sample but we were well and truly full after that stop) and perk up on some coffee and tea after the jugs of pimms at the Aviary.
And the day end on a high at Wolf Lane where we were treated to a cocktail lesson and the refined art of cocktail making. It seems I’m pretty amateurish at the fine art of cocktail shaking even after all these years spent hanging out at cocktail bars! I guess being a good drinker doesn’t mean you’re a good shaker!
So overall, a great day out. Can’t wait to do it all again soon!

We were treated to drinks & food at the Aviary, The George & Wolfe Lane. Having visited each of these bars in the past it was nice to see some new fit outs & changes at each venue.
The Pimms cocktail jugs at the Aviary were delicious & were a great accompaniment to the lawn bowls games we were playing. The jugs just kept coming out! The bowls was a great way to meet new Unilocalers as we were all split into random teams. We made our way out of there with a bit of a fuzzy head! We did however have a funny run in with a member of bar staff when we told some non Unilocalers who were sharing our table they could finish the rest of our jug as we were all leaving. I think they got into a bit of trouble! woops.
It was then on to the George for a high tea sampler. This was great with delicious savoury & sweet nibbles, coffee & tea, my favourite being the lemon meringue tart. We were all given a goodie bag with some items from each stop and lovely recipe cards which I will definitely be attempting to recreate.
Then it was off to the final stop, Wolfe Lane for a quick run down of the small bar/​event space & a cocktail lesson by the lovely and surprisingly Scottish bar manager Riccardo.
We even got to shake up our own delicious summer gin cocktails named the southside.
I am sure everyone left this event with a boozy brain, full tummy & some new friends.

The Aviary was up first with some refreshingly fruity Pims on offer. The big screen was showing the Winter Olympics to add to the sports theme with the main event being the carpet bowl competition! This provided an excellent chance to meet and chat to Unilocalers I had not met before. After the lawn bowls was decided with the last bowl of the competition it was time to move on to The George.
The George turned on a delicious high tea with tea and coffee complimented with lovely scones, delightful macaroons, fancy quiche’s, scrumptious lemon meringues and some other nibbles.
The final venue was Wolf Lane where we given a short talk about how to make the perfectly balanced southside gin cocktail. Once we had mixed our own cocktails, shaken not stirred of course, it was all about settling down on the comfortable seats to relax.

Barhopping, eating and drinking — the best way to spend a Sunday!
We started our day with a fresh Pimms cup (or two… or three) and a game of lawn bowls at the delightfully summery rooftop bar, The Aviary. The Aviary is located just next to the perth underground station, and boasts a lovely view of Murray Street Mall.
We moved on to the George, where we were offered tray after tray of delicious sweet and canapes treats and canapes, along with a variety of coffee and tea. I have a serious soft spot for miniature sized versions of things, so was pretty pleased with the tiny lemon meringue tarts, which were absolutely delicious– could even give my grandma’s recipe a run for it’s money!
After we were all feeling very full and sleepy, we were sent on our way to Wolf Lane with a delightful gift bag filled with goodies. Wolf lane was seriously impressive, as was the manager Ricardo, who taught us how to whip up a tasty gin based mojito.

Starting at the Aviary with Pimms and Lawn bowls was a great way to meet new people. Continuning onto the George, I got to try a taste of their high tea. Finishing at Wolf Lane Bar, it was great to hear the passionate Ricardo talk about making cocktails. The cocktail was really nice and refreashing on a warm Sunday afternoon.
This is why I love Unilocal.You not only get to try new things, but you get to meet lots of new people.

As always, Laura you have out done yourself to treating the Unilocal Elite to Perth’s finest! It was a perfect way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon with games, drinks, food and friendly company.
The playful open space at the Nest Rooftop Bar offering relaxing day beds and comfy chairs was the perfect Sunday session location to enjoy a game of lawn bowls. Plus, the fruity pimm’s and mingling with new faces was also a real hoot.
Next of the list was the George, which fed our hungry tummies with high tea sandwiches, quiches, lemon meringue tarts, berry macarons and apple and pear cider scones with delicious berry balsamic jam and vanilla cream.
Finally, hidden down Wolfe Lane off King and Murray Street is, as the lane suggests, Wolf Lane Bar. We were treated to owner, Ricardo entertaining us with his sexy accent and cocktail tips and tricks. I immensely enjoyed making my own Southside Gin Mojito even though I made a mess all over the bar.
Overall a great afternoon out with good company, food and drinks!

My first Elite event for 2014 was a great deal of fun and certainly a delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Starting at the Nest (Aviary) we were warmly greeted and provided Pimms cup cocktails (along with multiple refills) while enjoying a friendly (mixer) of lawn bowls.
A short walk later, we made our way to the George to enjoy a very tasty high tea in the back room which allowed us to continue to mingle and get to know our fellow Unilocalers.
Before heading off to the next venue we were treated to takeaway bags; which I always love — we got some great recipes and ingredients that I am looking forward to trying out.
Finally we were off to Wolf Lane bar where we heard from the passionate bartender on best practice mixology; and the the braver members helped out by shaking the Southside; while we enjoyed the extremely comfortable lounge area.
A big shout out to everyone who organised it and I hope everyone had as much fun as me.
