As with Anthony T’s review, my sister and her husband also regularly express their devotion to this place… and rightfully so! My partner and I enjoyed dinner here on a Saturday night and were promptly seated and served. The waiter struggled to smile and the restaurant’s décor was confused and unintentionally shabby. But this did not deter us from appreciating the authentic taste of their noodle soups. My other half can be quite fussy with his noodle soups, but was pleased with his phở, commenting that they were generous with the meat. The restaurant attracts an array of diners, ranging from couples to large groups. With most meals ranging from $ 10-$ 15, there is little to complain about. And for those who need a glass of red(or more), don’t forget you can byo. We have since returned for take-away as parking is often difficult in this part of town. We can now also confidently recommend the Bun Rieu(pork, crab and noodle soup) and the bun bo hue(spicy beef noodle soup). Wait, there is one thing I can whinge about… there are a couple steps at the entrance, rendering the restaurant inaccessible.

Don’t have too much to say about this place, as it just hits the nail on the head with service, food, and authenticity! Came here with a larger party of about 12 – 13 people, and they were very accommodating and took our order almost immediately. Our whole table ranged from their classic phở all the way to roasted duck — there was no lack of diversity at the table at all.

This was the first time myself and my dinner companions had ever been to Phong Vinh. It’s always been one of those places that we usually walk past on the way to The Moon Café, but this time we decided to stop in and try something a little different. Admittedly, I’ve had similar kinds of food before so I was familiar with most of what was on the menu. Having said that though, their menu does come with pictures in case you’re not sure what you’re getting. I have a soft spot for these little noddle houses mainly because pretty much, what you see is what you get. The décor and ambiance of the place is basic(as you would kind of expect from an authentic noodle house). The meals are simple but the serving sizes are ample and very filling. I ordered the«Cooked and Raw Beef Soup» and I seriously recommend it. Given that the cold weather is starting to get more frequent, this is friggen awesome. I cannot recommend it enough. Although… one of my dinner companions did get a spicy soup that I tried and OMG… I am definitely getting that next time I go there. And given the cost of it, it’s totally somewhere you can go back to regularly without breaking the bank. Surprisingly for Saturday night dinner service, the place was pretty empty but having said that — it’s not a bad thing as far as I’m concerned because the food came out really quickly. Overall, this place is really good. I really liked it. Affordable prices and great food. It’s not a ritzy high end restaurant(nor does it try to be) so as long as you don’t have those expectations when you walk into the place, it ticks all the right boxes as far as I’m concerned. I will definitely be back. And soon too.

Vietnamese food that definitely gives its nearby neighbours a run for their money. I like the phở here better than that at Viet Hoa and Lido, but the atmosphere isn’t as lively. Come back for casual dinner dates, but save the group gatherings for the other two venues. Staff are also happy to make food substitutes and do separate billing.

An almost perfect evening was had last night at Phong Vinh. We arrived around 9pm on a Friday evening and the place was heaving. However, there was one table with our name on it. The staff were really sweet and polite and wonderfully hot Jasmine tea arrived without having asked for it. We quickly settled on the stuffed chicken wings and a couple of the noodle dishes. Everything came out together(didn’t mind that) and what a feast! I really love the crispy freshness of the chopped cabbage, mint, bean sprouts and asian greens that generally accompany Vietnamese cuisine. My only disappointment was that the noodles appear to have been sitting in the strainer a little too long, and were a little dry and rubbery. But, the service, perfect tea, price and flavour make that a mere indiscretion to be overlooked.

I have to give 5 stars cuz that’s what everybody does. Had phó ga this morn. Admittedly I ain’t been to more than 8 or 9 Vietnamese joints round town, but this was easily the best soup I have had so far. Could do with a bit more sliced chilli, but easy enough to ask for, yarp? Place is clean, service efficient, and price just right for me. Recommended.

I love it here. So cheap, easy and consistent. When I am sick I crave meals such as this. Great for hot noodle soups.

Okay, so my sister and her partner are addicted to the food here, primarily the phở which is possibly the best you’ll find in Northbridge. I’ve joined them on several occasions and you can tell they’re appreciated regulars because the owners know their names, know where they like to sit, and know exactly what they are going to order. Usually the standard phở with extra slices of meat and lots of lemon and mint. The dish comes out piping hot and packed with beef which, due to the piping hotness, is readily being cooked in the broth. I’ve opted for it once and liked it, but can also suggest several other dishes like the sweet pork and rice(you hardly need to add sauce it’s so tasty) or the crispy chicken with noodles, drizzled with a divine honey sauce. Fast service, laidback atmosphere, clean surrounds: just what you want from your Northbridge Asian dining experience.

I recently had a very nice experience in this Vietnamese restaurant. Similar to many of those on William St. it looks mildly unassuming from the outside. But if you look closer, even when everywhere else on the street is quiet, this place is full and full of Vietnamese. This is a testament to their food and service. I came here with 5 friends on a girls night out as it was cheap and BYO. 3 of us arrived and whilst waiting for the others to come we chatted and chatted, not even looking at the direction of the menu. Nobody asked us to hurry or were we we ready, simply gave us glasses for our BYO wine. The food was delicious. I had spring rolls which were very fresh and the Vinh special noodles which has quail egg, pork and prawn. There was also a piece of unidentifiable liver type meat which was quite nasty but that is simply a matter of taste. I will definitely come here again.
