Most good nights out conclude with a kebab and here or Tommy’s(Blue Sea Café) are our usual haunts. In general, I find a kebab is a kebab is a kebab … but I have never seen a Tandoori kebab anywhere ever here — it’s a real hit. It’s usually pretty busy so grab your ticket and watch the late night revellers outside.

When a kebab shop has been operating for some 30 years, you know it’s onto a good formula. I remember digging into an Altos doner back in my early nightclubbing days. The meat seemed a little spicier than other kebab sellers’ and I like that. And they always had tastier sauces. I tried one recently, though, and though it satisfied like it used to, I was kind of expecting something more exciting on their menu since cuisine — including fast food– has moved on so much in the past couple of decades. I reckon Alto’s should introduce something new in kebabs: a gourmet range. Bring some new, zestier sauces to the table, throw an organic chicken up on a skewer if they have too. Yes, I understand that when they’re onto a good thing, why change it, but the times are a-changing faster than ever, and methinks this classic outlet could do with being ahead of the changes.

All good nights end with a kebab BUT not all kebabs can make a great night.. . Altos has got your kebab in the bag– Max and Jen are locals who run the place as if it’s a well catered for party. The atmosphere is happening, the smell of wood fire pizzas and coffee permeates the place and the booths on the sides set the scene– this is a place that the Fonz would call home.(They’ve got another kebab shop«Istabul Café» also worth a look in) The food is fresh, the staff are friendly and always up for a laugh and even the order numbers turns into a game of bingo(everyone wins!) It’s a quirky, effortless fun and the night will be as big or as low key as you choose to make it. The Operating hours are from 6: pm–(to either 2: am or: am respectively) allowing it to statisfy all. This is a good quality, tasteful dinner spot that children will love(especially the pizzas and the desserts) but it does adapt to the night life. Ultimately the space is large enough to cater for different crowds and the management ensures an enjoyable experience for all. While many come in with intentions of only«quality controlling» the restrooms– few leave without a kebab or chips! At times, I’ve left a club early to get a prime viewing spot at the after party that is Altos!

Alto’s Kebab House is FUUUUUN! There’s great service in here — no matter what time of night it is, the staff are friendly and will have a joke around with their drunken patrons while still getting their job done quickly. The last time I was in here the guy on the till placed a lei around my neck which was nice! Not sure why or where he got it from though! Once you get your food you’ll soon realise why this place is packed until the early hours — the food here isn’t your usual flung together shite, it’s damn tasty. I would literally recommend the whole menu — the kebabs, the pizza, the burgers and the chips(particularly the gravy chips and the taco chips — the best around for sure!). AND, it doesn’t end there! Alto’s has a jukebox down the end of the shop and there is always cheesy music on that you can drunkenly sing along to. Last weekend Justin Bieber’s song ‘Baby’ came on, and obviously no one my age would soberly admit to being a Belieber, but once that song blasted through the speakers everyone in there, and I mean EVERYONE, grown men and women alike, sang along to every word. It was hilarious. And once it was over no one could look eachother in the face ever again. Obvs.
