So disappointed in this place, I has bookmarked this after the great reviews it had received on Unilocal.I went here with my book ready for an afternoon of coffee & reading. Upon entry to the café a sign confirmed opening hours from 7.30am — 4pm. I arrived at 2pm. I ordered a large coffee from the woman who did not seem interested in being there. There were probably about 7 – 8 customers there at the time. My coffee arrived at 2.10pm & before I knew it the door between the café & the library was closed off. I really didn’t think much of this but then realised that the staff were cleaning & moving furniture as if they were closing but it was only 2.15pm. Then a customer asked if they were closing & the woman who served me said yes that she couldn’t wait to get in for a swim in her pool. I had only had a couple of mouthfuls of my coffee at that stage & felt uncomfortable in taking my time finishing it so I gulped it down & left. I think it is really poor policy to allow a place to close earlier when there are 7 – 8 customer eating & drinking coffee. The opening hours on their website & a board outside stated the place was open from 7.30am — 4pm.

Great coffee prepared as it should be fresh, quality, with care! Though I haven’t eaten the food, it’s freshly prepared and looks great(I’ve watched them make sandwiches for the window). Venue is relaxing and very inviting to sit down, order you coffee in an eco friendly cup to stay, and do a bit of reading. Outdoor space is large and nice. Library wifi is a plus. I rate it tops! Check it out.

Well I can’t wait to come back here! I was here to pick up a book that had come in and felt like a bit of afternoon tea. The Mother and Daughter(Emma) team who run this are so lovely, and competent. They have a great set up here in the corner of the Grove Library where you can sit inside or out on the deck. I love the interior design here, a really well thought out space with comfy chair options, a large, long table for groups, bar stools and some fun, functional outdoor furniture. They have a lovely range of teas, coffee, soup, focaccias and sweets. I had a pot of green tea(made to the correct temperature!) and snaffled the last piece of their Flourless Chocolate Cake. It was divine! It is such a light, open space and feels great to be here. Borrow a book and enjoy coffee or lunch!

Currently under new management, the Monogram Caffe located in a little nook in the Grove Library is a book and coffee lover oasis. It has a range of homemade bakes including the infamous lemon coconut curd tart(get in early!) gourmet sandwiches and rolls, cold drinks and strong Toby Estate coffee. This is the perfect place to carry on reading or relaxing in a quiet environment with a selection of cookbooks, travel guides and glossy art magazines to flick through while waiting. The previous owner, Thomas who now heads up Bossman coffee in Mt Lawley is well known for his barista abilities, however new to the café business, Emma is just as good and is always smiling!

Thomas’s coffee is the best in Cottesloe. He is a friendly, relaxed and a very talented barista. You must try it when in Cott next. Take your clients for meetings or friends for a coffee catchup and visit the Grove Library at the same time. Very convenient.

The man behind the machine is a cultivated barista. He’s earned his ribbons from all the Ivy League coffee spots around town. My sister and I have inadvertently stalked him from Cantina 663 to Boucla, to Mini Espresso and to Freo markets, before finding him again, this time at his own production inside The Grove Library — Monogram Caffe. Barista groupies? Maybe. A nose for awesome coffee? Definitely(if I do say so myself). Coincidence? No. Where Thomas goes, so comes the delicious coffee. Total sense. The ‘café’ itself is a coffee stand that fits neatly into the library. It’s framed like a study desk with retro style studio lights that crouch over Thomas’ workspace, providing light to his careful craft. The result is quite whimsical and lovely; especially in it’s quiet, environmentally friendly surrounds(the library is 100% sustainable). If you stop for a coffee at Monogram, and you should; pick up one of the sweet treats. Mini cakes and tarts baked by Perth’s own Betty Crocker; Mrs S and some from Thomas himself. His lemon curd tarts are perfection.
