Gorgeous local spot located on Ashbrook Ave in Payneham. I have heard such good things about this place that I had to go check it out(took me awhile but I got there in the end!) Lovely homely feel with beautiful décor and atmosphere. The menu has great variety and is full of organic and locally sourced South Australian produce which I absolutely loved! Better yet, you are not paying through the roof for it! Coffee was great and the iced chai at $ 5.50 is an absolute show stopper! I opted for the veggie burger which was a huge serving for only $ 14.90. The lentil chickpea patty was fresh and the brioche bun was a great addition. The burger comes with a huge quinoa and chickpea salad as well as potato salad. everything on the plate is absolutely delicious(just a shame I couldn’t finish it) The grilled chicken wrap was also fantastic and had all the right ingredients! Five Little Figs, I can see why you are a popular local spot. I am so keen to head back and try their breakfast menu!

The building used to be an old deli and the exterior looks temporary and disused but as soon as you walk in its lovely. We asked for a menu and sat down and noticed the menu was pretty much a standard breakfast menu minus the healthier or more foodie special options befitting a gourmet cooking school. So I went up to order and after we ordered I noticed there was a specials board(which you wouldn’t necessarily expect to see for breakfast) which was hidden from view from the dining area. Luckily it had one green Juice and two healthier more interesting breakfast options so we changed our order. It’s surprising they didn’t direct us to the menu board when we were given the menu. The green juice was excellent, and so was the mushrooms on toast. The creamed oats were not too creamy, just right. The coffee was terrible, the worst I have seen for a while. A ‘flat white’ is normally not literally white! The ‘crema’ on the top was white with not a tinge of brown and it tasted over milky as well.

This was my first visit to Five Little Figs, as I was under the impression it was more of a ‘kids café’ … well, I was wrong! While the café is kid-friendly and there is a little area to cater for them, this is fairly small in comparison to the size of the café, and kids(and parents) are encouraged to be respectful to other patrons. The café is very comfortable and stylish(without being pretentious), and the menu is extensive. I had the smashed avocado on bread, which was absolutely delicious! There are a lot of lovely desserts to tempt the tastebuds too, so I will definitely have to come back to take advantage of these ;) I like the way that the kids meals(and the adult meals, come to think of it!) are kept healthy without being boring(no chips and nuggets in sight!). Staff were very friendly and welcoming too. If this was closer to home, I would be back all the time ;)

Adelaide needs a corner store revival and this one is leading the pack. From the quirky menus and eclectic seating to the fabulous healthy menu and amazing sweet treats with raw, gluten free and vegan options, Five Little Figs has something for everybody. Great coffee, great atmosphere and service with a smile.

This is a lovely place with lots of thought and passion that has been invested in it. I wouldn’t go back though unless I had children with me and didn’t mind the activities and noise of other children. Menu is limited but enough for a light lunch or snack. It is obviously very child focused which is great. So if you have children, check out the cooking classes and make a date with other parents.

The women who run FLF have done an amazing job turning the place from an old street-corner shop into a lovely spot, and I’m sure plenty of blood sweat and tears went into all aspects of the business. However, as a childless lady the café is not a place I would not visit again with my friends, despite a lot of things I really like about it. The food was good and fresh, with a varied menu and dedication to providing lots of options for the fussy and/or dietary restricted. The décor is very sweet and a few bits and pieces, such as homewares and products for children, are also on sale there. Yet, if you just want to go and have a chat with a friend and grab a coffee without kids in tow, I couldn’t recommend it. If you are there with children it would be an amazing place to have all of your needs met and let them have some fun. A substantial part of the café is dedicated to children, which at times makes it feel more like a play-space than a restaurant with kids zooming all over. Obviously, the owners can’t help how some kids may act, but it can make the vibe pretty intense and overwhelming for a patron who hasn’t brought a child along! I can’t help but feel I went in here with the wrong expectations and that from my experiences it is more like a really awesome kid place, with a café as an addition.

I love it here! From the moment we walked in, to when we left, we were made to feel so welcome. The owner, Michelle, had placed a reserved sign on a table, however pointed out to us all the available options so we could choose where we wanted to sit. She greeted us personally and gave us a warm welcome. I love the menus! What a novel idea to have them made out of little children’s books. Read a little story while waiting — why not? Or just dwell in the reverie that such an item evokes. The atmosphere is fun and friendly with quirky and lovely décor that has been well described in other reviews. Suffice it to say that there is much to look at, enjoy and also purchase. The food was delicious! I love an all day breakfast option and am particularly impressed with the varied bread and non-bread options. e.g. I had a breakfast dish, called ‘smashed’ which was served on sweetcorn fitters. Delicious non-bread accompaniment to eggs and salmon. My dining companions ordered the pumpkin burger and apparently that was scrumptious. Really healthy too. It looked amazing. Michelle’s attention to detail, atmosphere, quality and presentation of food and ability to create warm feelings and fun, make this a great place to come(they also have cooking classes for children and various other activities you can keep abreast of on Facebook).

Great local café with excellent food and décor, but coffee(my primary consideration) is inconsistent. I would love to come more often but coffee is a deal breaker. Great for after school and the raspberry and white chocolate muffins are fantastic. Give it a go.

This place caters to the inner child and the little darlings who can’t sit still for 5 minutes. So if you are not a fan of loud noises and get exhausted just watching the tots run around in circles chasing their own tales then this place isn’t for you. Fortunately, I came here early enough to avoid the younger crowds and was able to dine on a huge brekky with a friend in peace with all but the sound of the coffee machine and smell of bacon cooking to distract me. Yes this place caters to vegans and gf’s but it does still keep the carnivores happy. Ironically, I chose to have the I Do Not Want Ham Said Sam plate of green eggs, mushrooms and toast(yes all the menu items have such quirky names). The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly and the green pesto was fresh and zinging with basil and parsley. My soy latte was creamy and made with Bonsoy thank you very much and service was efficient and friendly for 8:30am in the morning. Also if you are ever looking for a $ 25 soy candle in a $ 2 vintage shop fancy glass jug or bowl this is the place to go. Those who also need knitted covers for their apples, and fancy nappy bags will also be quite content perusing all the«stuff» for sale. A very pleasant, warm and relaxing shop(minus the kids in the morning), this was a perfect and healthy way to start the morning. I could have easily stayed for lunch!

Let me be completely honest here, give me a fig and I wouldn’t eat it. However give me five, and I might come around… I have been following the development and subsequent successful opening of Five LIttle Figs. The brainchild of chef, Michelle Campbell, this place manages to combine the funk and finesse of a trendy urban café while offering a safe-haven for those with little figlets. And do please take note of this last point, as this is a child-friendly café so be mindful of the fact that there will be plenty of kid-fuelled ambient noise. Once a suburban corner deli, FLF has already ingratiated itself into the surrounding community. On entering the café, you come upon a large, open plan space with loads of seating both private and communal. There is an ample play area for children which is integrated into the dining area; no filthy plastic ball-pits here. Nor play-castles that swallow up your 3-year-old, and force you to venture through a maze of padded-polyurethane turrets in order to find your screaming toddler. There is also outdoor seating, should the weather be kind(unfortunately on our visit, it was quite cold and wet). Here you’ll also find a blossoming kitchen garden, and the grassed wall which amazed my daughter no end… until she deduced it was plastic turf. Nevertheless, it’ll keep the wee ones amused. The food philosophy at FLF is simple. Literally, it is just that. Simple. Good, honest food. No processed, deep-fried muck here. From Paddock to Plate is what they boast, and they do well to deliver. Catering to both meat-eaters, and those who prefer a plant-based diet there is much to choose from on the menu. Other dietary requirements(gluten, egg, nut and dairy free) are also catered to. We went for the Fruit Toast Deluxe and Cinnamon French Toast, while my Miss Figet decided on a Ferrero Rocher cupcake. The fruit loaf is an exclusive from local producer, Hughsli(most famous for his delectable Hughsli bars), and jam packed with fruit. Speaking of jam, Hughsli’s own pear and quince jam comes with this dish along with a generous dollop of creamy ricotta. Decadent tasting, but with that feel-good factor. The Cinnamon Toast hits the spot as well. Not soggy or over-cooked, served up with home-made lemon curd and raspberry coulis which adds just the right amount of ‘tang’, and fresh cream for those that want to cut through the zing of the fruit. I didn’t partake in the cupcake, but the determined silence from Miss Fig and speed at which the cake disappeared I think is testament to its taste. Drinks were a flat white, dirty chai(chai latte with espresso shot, for the uninitiated) and the sweetest caramel kid-shake I have ever seen. Served in a wee milk bottle, it ticks all the cute and kid-centric boxes! The hot beverages were spot on, and the kid-shake went down a treat. There are also a wide selection of juices, teas and sparkling drinks for a bit of fizz. FLF is not just a café on it’s own though… Oh no. You can also hire the venue out for birthday parties for your little foodie. And there are also cooking classes available through Kinderchefs. In fact we’re slated in to try our first one next week! A great way to get kids involved in the kitchen, as well as introducing them to foods that perhaps previously they had an aversion to. My only disappointment with FLF is that it isn’t open on weekends! For those of us who work full time it does limit our visits to days off. However, it does make for a decadent day off, and something to very much look forward to! And really, the amount of heart and soul that goes into this little venture, should mean that the Kitchen-Figs get a few days off a week! If you are over the over-priced, over-processed mess that are ‘Play Cafes’, and the kids are riding shotgun to your coffee morning, head to Five Little Figs. You’ll all be catered for, guaranteed.

I have followed with interest the transformation that has become the Five little figs. Popped in today with my hubbie for brekkie. We both loved the menu and I was glad that they catered for V and GF, unfortunately I had nearly finished eating before the other meal came out which was only after we chased it up. There had been a mix up with the order. This was quickly rectified and apologies given and complimentary coffee. This was all done with a smile on the face. So all was forgiven, I love that this is a family friendly place and free range children are encouraged and they all behaved beautifully. It was noisy however pleasantly so, I would highly recommend it to anyone with children and without. There is an outside area if you really just wanted a coffee in peace. Ladies well done for your great café and the ambience.

This place is crawling with tots. And I mean literally crawling, I almost upended my latte on a baby’s head. The Five Little Figs’ motto may be ‘bringing the paddock to the plate,’ but my saucer had a delicious Fruchoc brownie on it, not a handful of sod and a cow pat. What once was your classic meat pie corner deli has been transformed into a light-filled café with plenty of benches and armchairs for people to recline in, as well as a kids play area packed with toys. The rear courtyard is made up of kiddy seats and an impressively plentiful veggie garden. We sat with the kids and crayons in hand and drank Malt shakes, which had just enough sugar to be delicious but not so much we were sick after. And the coffee was ggggggreat! If you don’t like children this is not the place for you. Five Little Figs is family friendly to the max, with kids cooking classes, birthday parties, and beautiful handmade items for sale that you think are purses but are actually nappy wipe holders. Children rule this roost so much so that they’re encouraged to create their own artwork and then stick it randomly on the café walls. Special kudos to the kid who drew a giant carrot, stuck it right next to the entrance, and then walked around the café saying to other patrons ‘Wow, who drew that carrot? It’s amazing!‘ I most enjoyed the Ken doll placed strategically in a garden pot. He waved me out with the smug smile of a host who always throws the best parties.

A new café in an old corner grocery store has breathed life back into a sad little shop. We went there for a Friday morning coffee(opens at 830) and 3 hours later we were still there after our 2nd cups/pots of tea that pour seemingly endless cups(ok.maybe 3). It’s advertised as a cooking school, café and«stuff» venue, and is starting slowly with openings just Mon — Friday until 4pm, but they have events coming up, and have various cooking opportunites, including classes for kids — so keep up to date on . The breakfasts that were served looked generous and delicious, and they have gluten, wheat and vegan food on offer and it looks fresh and sumptuous… next time! They cater to children, so if you’re worried about young people playing(and crying) — don’t come! I see this as a refuge for parents who want to meet their friends while their kids can draw on the chalk board or have something to eat at their own table. Support a new local, or pop out of your way for a quirky, delicious café.
