Namasté Nepalese Restaurant

When I first discovered namaste 6 years ago I was very impressed, my partner decided to take me as we were both vegan at the time. We had a lovely time. The outside undercover garden is beautiful (a little tacky and needs a refurbish but I enjoyed myself. The prices not so much. Since I have been three about 4 more times and the more I have been the dishes have been slowly shrinking in sizes and the prices going up. This for me it’s ok. I believe if I restaurant is doing well it should account for that and not keep raising its prices. Not the mention the service, when you are waiting 20 minutes to try and catch the waiters attention means either they need more staff or better staff. the second time I asked for a side of lemon and was charged for it even though it never came. The 3^rd time we were overcharged for dishes we didn’t order. The forth I took my parents there for a surprise dinner for their anniversary. I had told them about the place and how lovely a restaurant was so I booked ahead requesting an outdoor table due to my mother being profoundly deaf, which means loud places indoors she can’t hear anything. So when I booked I requested the outdoor annex so she could hear for my dad to whisper romantic things to her. Instead they were placed inside in a room full of people talking loudly. I had also specified in the booking that my mother needed a table outside which I was told would happen and that both my parents couldn’t handle spicy food and was told which dishes were not spicy. However when my parents ordered what we had been told was not spicy was in fact very spicy.
When I questioned the restaurant about why my parents had been placed inside they said the restaurant wasn’t busy enough to open the doors to the back area. When they had promised my parents a table outback when I explained how my mothers hearing aid made it hard to hear indoors. And when I questioned about the spicy dishes they said it depended on the cook. Ultimately my parents had a terrible time on their 30^th anniversary… I like to give people second chances but when it comes to my family, which I had spent a lot of time organising, for them to have such a disappointing night I am not happy. I do not recommend. I won’t even bothered with scores out of ten.
So I will end my review like this, a ‘family restaurant’ which doesn’t deliver on their word, gives poor service and uses its good name to overcharge for pretty average dishes.

One of the handful of Nepalese eateries around Adelaide, and as good as any of the others.
We did a Banquet and it was great. From the servings of mixed entrees each to the handful of rich and tasty curries. non too hot. If you don’t want a banquet, there are plenty of other options for both meat and veg eaters.

‘Namaste’ is a Hindi greeting and blessing and eating here is also a blessing! I’m sure that if they turned the air-​con on full consistently here, you could almost be convinced that you’re eating in a restaurant at the base of the Himalaya’s! The wonderfully simple and genuine décor is plain but welcoming. A large head of Buddha lit (somewhat tackily sadly) with a red rope light watches over you from the garden as you tuck into a menu of genuine Nepalese cuisine.
We had the ‘banquet menu’ consisting of rice, Aloo, butter chicken, melt-​in-​the-​mouth goat curry, tandoori chicken, mashed pumpkin (v spicy — beware) and lamb rack all served with plenty of naan bread. Every single dish was uniquely spiced and supremely delicious!
The staff were helpful and friendly; in the shadows when not required and instantly available when they were.
There’s a comprehensive wine and beer list and the water was kept flowing in order to keep those spices at bay!
I first ate here many years ago and am happy to report that it’s just as good now as it was then.
An imminent return is definitely on the cards!

The food here really is delectable.
I found the décor quite plain and a little tired, however it seemed to be all chosen for meaning and to give an impression of a genuine Himalayan restaurant. Since I haven’t been to Nepal, I can’t really comment! But I think the intent was there and it certainly wasn’t offensive. It was also a refreshing change not to have the formulaic modern, sometimes no character, décor that is in abundance.
I was with a group of approx 30 in a private function. We began by being offered champagne while chatting as guests arrived. The staff was very accommodating and welcoming.
Crisp white tablecloths and sparkling glassware set the tone for the food presentation and I couldn’t fault it. We had the banquet menu and began with individual plates of a mixed entrée. A samosa that was tasty and not greasy, a Momo (chicken dumpling), which was delicious, an onion bhaji and Sekewa, a piece of marinated chicken from the clay oven served with a mint and yoghurt sauce.
The rest of the dishes followed in a timely fashion and included dhaal, aloo, butter chicken, goat curry (so tender), spinach, prawn curry and pumpkin curry, accompanied by fluffy rice and hot, fresh naan. Each dish had its own blend of flavours and nuances of herbs and spices. I felt the dishes were all so well balanced. Only the pumpkin one was a little hot, which I personally loved, but the dishes didn’t need to be overpowered with heat. They had delicate flavours that were well appreciated by my tastebuds not being blasted away.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and the staff caring and attentive. I have their take away & delivery menu as well now and can’t wait to be transported to culinary heights again soon!

Second visit in less than 2months. Love the banquet, you get to try a bit of everything. Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere, a bit daggy inside, but the food is great. Wine list pretty extensive, overall very happy with the meal, would definitely recommend

Namaste do takeaway and delivery as well as eat in! And the takeaway menu prices are really reasonable.
What I really like about namaste is the large range on the menu, and that the vegan and veggie options are all labelled on the menu.
Service here is really great too. Our waiter was really lovely and the free pappadams to start with got me :) Although they’ll ask you of you want more. Those ones are not free.
The layout is pretty cool, and it varies on where you sit, you can be in a private-​ish lounge area or outside smoking by the tv.
Namaste is slightly pricey, but the food is really good! My partner really enjoyed his meat dish, and the veggie curry was really flavoursome, and had a good amount of veggies and not just the token frozen peas I suspect some places bulk up their veggie curries with.

I’ve been here on a date which was fantastic, romantic and the food was spot on. These guys really know how to cook authentic flavours and for the less spicy cowards (me) in society they have mildly spiced dishes to tickle anyone’s fancy.
Their roti bread is top notch, it’s thick and you end up scooping up sauce onto it and just going to town.
Oh and if you’re vego, no problem, their vegetable curry is SO GOOD I order it and I’m a meat-​fiend!
I’ve also had to order takeaway for 9 people from here on a lazy saturday night just after new years, and they didn’t charge too much! The assorted curries (9 containers) with rice and bread was all made within 20 minutes despite the fact they said it could be up to 30 minutes.
I’m always super satisfied with their meals, service and timing.

If you’re after a curry (or fabulous dhal, or beautiful garlic roti, or tasty momo), this is the place to go. In addition, the whole menu is coded with gluten-​free and vegetarian options as well, so there’s pretty much something everyone. If you’re looking for an excellent alternative to heavy, greasy Indian food, try Namaste. (And did I mention the goat curry?)

You probably recognise the name from the old Yoga greeting: loosely translated Namaste means ‘I bow to you.’ I’m a big fan of the menu here. The charcoal clay oven chicken is delicious, I highly recommend. They have a lovely mix of Indian, Chinese and Tibetan, and what I appreciate most is that they go light on the spices. I’m a huge wuss when it comes to spice and I feel like I’m missing out on a lot of wonderful Asian dishes because I can only handle mild. Namaste has all of the unusual flavours and great taste without turning your body into a sweat lodge.
The restaurant is in a lovely cottage, and they have open fires burning in winter and a busy outside area for summer. The service is usually excellent but the last time we went I was disappointed that our waitress seemed to forget us and we had to wait a long time for drinks. This was made up for by our host however, who gave us a complimentary glass of wine because of the wait.
Book ahead because this place is majorly popular with the Eastern elite and fills up quick. Note: Lunch is by appointment only and it has to be a group of 12 or more. I recommend this place for dates: it’s a romantic setting and hand holding throughout the meal is a must.
