Do you remember when there was a local deli’s in almost every suburb of Adelaide? Everyone had a corner deli and that’s where you would go to buy your milk, bread and paper and on the odd occasion a pastie or a bag of lollies. Well the days of the local deli seem to have almost passed us by and they’re at risk of falling into the category of the dying breed. I do however have a local deli around the corner from me and I go out of my way to support them. These small business owners have been swallowed up over the years by the big supermarket chains and the one stop petrol servos like On The Run. My local deli on Fullarton Road is still full of character. It has a personality and there’s nothing chain store or big about it. It’s quaint. It’s privately owned and it’s local. Let’s all make an effort to support our local deli owners — when we can find them of course because sadly there’s not too many left.
